Just a reminder in all the holiday bustle, you can lock in 5x as much storage for the same yearly price if you subscribe to #Obsidian Sync before January 1. (Current Sync users get the upgrade automatically.) https://obsidian.md/blog/new-sync-plans/
FYI, I don’t work for Obsidian. I’m just a satisfied user.
Check out the latest Obsidian plugins and game-changing features they bring to your workflow! 🚀 From enhanced organization to seamless connectivity, these additions are a game-changer for #Obsidian users. Obsidian-users: With over 1300 plugins available wouldn't it be a good idea to categorize the Community Plugins section in settings or be able to tag plugins in accordance with function? I feel there are a lot plugins doing the same thing with a slight difference and it's getting harder to navigate and find the good stuff. #obsidian#obsidianmd
Here’s an updated version of my super-simple “Start my day” #Obsidian workflow that creates/updates your current daily note with the current weather and your calendar events for today. The new version can be run more than once and will refresh your list of events every time.
I've overhauled my "Sync Contacts with Notes” #ShortcutsApp workflow which syncs contacts from a Apple Contacts group named “Shortcuts demo” with #Obsidian. It now makes use of file properties.
It creates single notes for each contact, with up-to-date contact details. When the workflow is run again, it’ll find existing notes and update them. The entries in Contacts will gain a clickable link to the Obsidian note.
I started tinkering with @obsidian, and I'm definitely impressed - the experience seems smoother than any other notetaking app I've used. But I'm still debating whether it's enough better than @joplinapp (my current default) to overlook the fact that Obsidian is closed-source while Joplin is open.
It's not like I'm a die-hard open-source-only disciple, but all other things being equal-ish, I do prefer to choose open source programs, and I'm now asking myself just how far am I willing to stretch that "ish".
I love Obsidian so much, it's such a game changer for ADD folks especially, but the sync has sure stunk for me. I bought it last night and am asking for a refund today. In less than 24 hours I now have duplicate vaults on two machines and vault A is now showing all vault B content...what a mess!
Syncing with iCloud worked so much better. It isn't as fast a sync as I wanted but it doesn't lose or misplace the files.
Id love it if there were some good intermediate guides or articles for #obsidianmd - I want to dive deeper but seems half the time when i search for how to make more effective use of a certain feature all that i get back is very very basic starter guides which don't even scratch the surface.
@bengillam I think part of this has to do with the fact that:
A) intermediate applications of #ObsidianMD tend to evolve out of personal problem solving, and are therefore less likely to be showcased and
B) for many people, the basics (with tweaks to structure or differences in how and when they're applied) prove to be enough to meet their future needs.
Later stuff by Bryan Jenks and certain presentations (dataview!) by @nicole certainly qualify as more advanced.
Nick Milo’s Ideaverse and TfTHacker’s Canvas Candy are a problem. They move too far from the text first focus of Obsidian. I admire these producers for other things, but these are not a direction I can support. I see them like all the pretty Instagram Bullet Journals, far from Rider’s origination but more directly income-generating.
Maybe as a plugin/option. Not by default. I like Obsidian’s markdown just as it is.
Edit: also - bugger programs, that should be free but instead costing $50, expecting ultra popular free programs to adopt their “standards” and maybe hoping they can get fame/credit/exposure and more money out of it somehow. #iawriter#obsidian#obsidianmd
What would make your life easier when working with your vault on your Apple machines? Is there anything you have trouble getting to work? What are you missing on AFO's roadmap (https://forum.actions.work/t/development-roadmap/16)?
ℹ️ I’m afraid interactive widgets are currently out of the question, the mix of Obsidian API + iOS is not very forthcoming in that regard…
@kepano hello ! thank you for your great work on #ObsidianMD.
Do you plan to publish your workflow to publish content, as you do for your personal website?
