I'm sure that, as a nonbinary person, you've had many people tell you what words you should and shouldn't use.

I won't repeat the twisted arguments that aim to stop you from calling yourself trans, bisexual, gay, lesbian, straight and more. You know them chapter and verse by now. I don't need to remind you of the push back against micro labels, or just new labels. You're well aware of how nonbinary people are not allowed to use binary pronouns, yet every alternative is "grammatically incorrect."

What magical combination of labels and pronouns will people finally accept in a nonbinary person, you might ask? What do they want?

They want you to stop being nonbinary. You can't placate them.

Nonbinary people must wear bigots out by existing, boldly, despite them. And we will, because suffering for the sake of truth is easy compared to suffering to preserve one's fear.

I just want to remind you that simply existing as a nonbinary person is a tremendous benefit to all other nonbinary people.

So, good job. Keep it up.

Coming out is often not a linear process for nonbinary people.

Only a few of our labels are remembered by our societies, and those few labels are not all the same ones. So, you must effectively teach a course on gender to those you come out to. To make matters more murky, you might've come out once already about your orientation or another label.

Our lives aren't cute tv shows with simple endings. Allow yourself some room to improvise, and pat yourself on the back for getting it done.

If you're feeling isolated right now, remember that you're not the only nonbinary person out there.

We can be tough to find due to various societies trying to bury us. Nevertheless, there will always be someone who understands what it is to be nonbinary.

Our nonbinary family is everywhere.

Go and mix up the "women's" and "men's" sections until the division is meaningless. Take the gender roles that have harmed you and twist them into being yours. Subvert, shift, and change the binary until it breaks from only two to infinite.

Our gift to the world as nonbinary people is destroying the constraints that the gender binary places on all people who come into contact with it.

You’re not weak for getting upset over being misgendered.

You’re not overreacting to a slur.

You’re not too picky for wanting to dress differently.

You’re not unreasonable for wanting others to acknowledge the dangers you face.

You’re not “making everything about gender” for wanting to be taken seriously as a nonbinary person.

It is not too much to ask to be treated as a person with needs and desires unique to you.

It doesn’t matter how you look as a nonbinary person, it's not your fault if you get misgendered.

Most people will decide you are a man or a woman based on any number of arbitrary reasons and that is entirely their failing.

I f a person believes that there are only black bears and grizzly bears, then they can't recognize a polar bear. You wouldn't blame the polar bear for this person's ignorance.

You are not responsible for their refusal to learn.

You can be nonbinary and still appear as a woman or a man to many people.

What looks, sounds, or feels "nonbinary" to you matters more than what the general public might think.

Live your life. Do what feels true to you.

You don't have to "subvert" your own identity as a nonbinary or otherwise queer/lgbtq person.

Fitting roles that are common or traditional for your community is wonderful. Being yourself and finding joy in others like you is good.

Facts and history are not stereotypes or tropes. Your life is more than a piece of media to be analyzed and judged.

If you're nonbinary, then you look nonbinary, too.

You look nonbinary even if you get misgendered. You just look like a misgendered nonbinary person.

You always look nonbinary because you are nonbinary.

The pain you deal with from being nonbinary is important. The joys that arise from being nonbinary are relevant. Your needs as a nonbinary person should be taken unto account. Your oppression is real.

And the dynamics of your life should never be brushed aside as a topic only to be adressed when “bigger problems” are resolved.

Your gender matters. Your life matters. You matter.

@kitoconnell Considering the fact that men in medieval times (and before) used to wear it, makes it more ironical. What a regression haha

This is to every nonbinary person who has a lesser-known gender or gender situation.

You do not, in any way shape or form, give the nonbinary community a “bad name.”

On the contrary, you are an example of how adaptable and diverse the nonbinary community is.

Without you, this community would be so much less than the lively and complex group that we are.

If somebody rejects you only because you are nonbinary, that's not your fault.

Being nonbinary is beautiful. Their reaction is merely a result of their own ignorance and bigotry.

Be glad that such a sorry excuse of a human removed themselves from your life.

If you are nonbinary, your body is a good example of a nonbinary body no matter what you look like, or the state your body is in.

Your body is always good and appropriate to being nonbinary.

Being nonbinary is not something unfortunate that others have to merely “put up with” to be with you.

Your gender situation is a wonderful facet of who you are, and should be celebrated as such.

You deserve to share your life with people who recognize this.

proudnb, to nonbinary

You are greater than those who give you trouble for being nonbinary.

Such people work hard to bring you down, but they work even harder to make themselves less than they could be.

Survive them and move on.

There's always going to be people who want you to pass a test, meet criteria, or otherwise prove to them that you're nonbinary.

You have no obligation to discuss your nonbinary nature with such people, whether or not you meet their baseless standards.

You need to live for yourself, not the insecurities of others.

Dort haben wir uns für Aufklärung und Toleranz eingesetzt. Ein großes Thema war der Streit für ein faires, echtes Selbsbestimmungsgesetz. Vielen Dank an alle, die dabei waren.

If someone doesn’t believe you when you tell them you are nonbinary, that is their failing, not yours.

You don't owe proof to anyone.
