Oh yea, it's Jukebox Friday Night (in the afternoon). The theme is apparently "Transcendence" / "Lose Yourself" - or to quote, "uplifting, joyous & otherworldly tunes..."
Sigue Sigue Sputnik's debut single, released in 1986 from their album "Flaunt It". It was their biggest hit, peaking at number three on the UK Singles Chart. The track, noted for its edgy style, was produced by Giorgio Moroder after Prince found it "too violent."
Edit: Fun Fact. I toured with them as a support band, greenhaus.
Released in 1981, "Telecommunication" is a track from A Flock of Seagulls' self-titled debut album (1982). Known for its significance in the new wave genre, the song didn't chart in the UK or US but gained popularity on dance charts. It reflects the band's distinctive synth-driven sound.
My Mental Soundtrack, off the air for a few weeks, springs back to life today - featuring an old favorite returning to my brain due to personal current events. Especially the lines:
"There's good points, some bad points
But it all works out, though I'm a little freaked out..."
It's the end for one of my all-time favorite bands. Geordie Walker of Killing Joke has passed after suffering a stroke. Killing Joke had been preparing a new album and tour since 2021. As far as I know, Killing Joke was the only rock band besides U2 that was still recording and touring with all the founding members since the late 1970s. #u2#killingjoke#music#rock#uk#newwave#heavymetal#geordiewalker
A year ago I started a little personal #Fedi project to every week share #newRelease music + a variety of other tracks from all sorts of eras & genres too.
I called it #BearTracks for my own humour & just to sort of see what I was doing.
It's over 500 tracks now. Lots of good music, quite a bit you might not have heard.
It's rare & special to like an album as much after 30years as the first day you heard it. It now holds some additional layers of the times I've played it, and events in my life.
