Question for anyone who recognises themselves in this picture: what would be your preferred way of communicating those valuable thoughts in a meeting/work setting?

As a team lead, I see this often. I know we have brilliant minds on the team, but many of them are staying quiet. There are multiple good reasons why, so I'm looking for practical advice and affordances that can provide less resistance to active participation.

Pls boost for reach, thx!

When people find out I’m & (well-meaning but problematically) say something like “Don’t worry, you can’t tell!”

I think to myself “You’ve obviously never seen me zoned out at the grocery store w/my over-ear headphones, making clicking noises in my throat & doing god-knows-what kind of hand movements that feel good in the moment”

Y’know…just in my groove 🎶

Fly your flag high wherever you please, my friends⛳️

I don't put projects on the back burner. I put them under the floorboards, where the ever-louder beating of their hearts drives me slowly to madness.

A new #introduction because new instance.

Hi! 👋

I'm a #Neurodivergent #ActuallyAutistic #Spoonie #Hypermobile #POTS #Disabled #Nonbinary They/Them.

I try really hard to remember accessibility tools (ALT Text).

Still learning how this all works. Not great at social media in general. Previously found with the same handle on the birdsite, and several other instances (weirder.earth and mastodon.social specifically).

Patience with me please?

/ / / folks, plz compare:

In your experience, would UX from the 2nd link distract, overstimulate or bother you in a way that represents an issue?

Note: I'm not the one proposing this, I'm not even affected. I ask for the sake of others; polling for statistical sample size.

Does anyone else do this thing:

When I write or say something I'm particularly pleased with, like a comment on someone's post where I feel like I've made a good point or said something really funny:

I say it to myself several times afterwards, in my head or out loud, half a dozen or more times.

Is that a kind of echolalia?

I think I do it because it extends some of the dopamine hit I got from the original satisfaction.

Do other people do this?

AuDHD people are at an increased likelihood of smoking. Despite this, research priorities fail time and again to look into quality of life issues just like this.

Many of us started these behaviours when young as a way of self-medicating our struggle to survive in a world not made for us

One of my weird quirks is I can't listen to music in the background. It hugely distracts from what I'm doing and so becomes irritating.

I like music, but my world is free of it unless my main task is listening to music, or at movies, concerts, clubbing, etc.. I don't even listen to music in a car.

I get the same problem with television in the background, even if it's muted. Changing background visuals are as distracting as music.

i joined a chatroom for people with #ADHD and it didn't take long for someone to complain that they have trouble with relationships.

"you're good for sex but you're not relationship material. you're fun to play with, but i don't take you seriously."

Sometimes, I wonder if it would serve #disabled and #neurodivergent people well to arrange some protests. Against how rigid and standardised things have become.

People who could contribute are prevented from doing so because of unnecessary requirements.

The average person has some flexibility and can adapt. Considering this fact, it's ironic that society has become so inflexible and rigid, all in the name of marginal improvements to the safety and comfort of people who were already fairly safe and comfortable to begin with.

Us weirdos were always the ones to get in trouble anyway. Making the rules stricter doesn't make the problem go away. It just creates a society that operates like a prison camp.

How having weird special interests as an #neurodivergent person saved the holidays of an old german couple and a lot of time at the #pharmacy lmao.

So I have a special interest in #medications. It's often seen as weird. I am french, I speak English well enough to live my daily live in english if needed. I was securing my #adhd medication when I hear english in the pharmacy. Nothing unsual in the South of France. A couple of Germans (not unusual) wanted to fill in their prescription.

Musing today: How many team building exercises are inclusive to #neurodivergent people? I am both trainer and participant in many of them, and this is an ongoing question.

Share your experiences if you would like?

(E.g. "stare into people's eyes for long minutes and their read their nonverbal cues to complete this exercise successfully..." etc.)

I'm trying out a higher dose of my #ADHD medication.
Yesterday, I took it at 8:30am, finished my cup of tea, sneezed, then glanced over at the clock again and saw that it was suddenly 4:45pm.
And instead of doing the work I was supposed to have done, I appear to have re-created 'Potato Jesus' as a stained-glass window.

Thoughts about writing action scenes. I feel like I don't have the brain power to wrap my mind around all the action, who goes where, who does what?

I'm wondering if this is related to my extra spicy neurodivergence.

Does anyone have any tips or tools they use? Wonder if I need to dig out my D&D miniatures?

Thoughts my fellow neurodivergent authors?

🧵 1/3 I’ve been out of commission a couple days due to flu. Feeling better and heading to see family for a bit. Needed to get a couple of errands done. Gas. Meds. A bit of groceries. No biggie.

But it’s Friday before Christmas. Of course. Everyone and their third and fourth cousins are packing places like CVS and Safeway. Parking lots filled with confused people are annoying. Deep breaths.

To my fellow or otherwise folks…

I would appreciate any tips on how to use Mastodon without it causing overwhelm/getting lost in it.

🧠My blend of has a REAL hard time with this kind of platform (never got Twitter either), but I’m drawn to the community & connection here.

I’m like instantly a confounded 105-year-old when it comes to Mastodon/Twitter 🙃

Ps - I’ve seen @actuallyautistic but not clear how that even works

Does anyone with #ADHD, #Dyslexia or #Dyscalculia have advice on how to learn a second language? I seem to have issues with auditory understanding. For example, in Duolingo I'm great at learning the language, but as soon as you remove the app, I can't understand anything because I don't see the text. Is this normal? #neurodiverse #neurodivergent

I find it extremely hard to ask for accommodations (much harder than even asking first help). Like, I don’t want to be perceived as arrogant and entitled, I don’t want to bother other people, I think other people don’t owe me anything, so I kinda don’t feel like I have a right to ask. Like, it’s my problem, I shouldn’t turn it into theirs.
I wonder how other folks feel about that. Do you think it’s something we’ve been taught?
