My broken and tired old lady brain has finally, mostly, gotten the hang of basic hiragana (pls don't ask me about how the katakana is going lol).
So now ofc the lessons in Genki have added kanji and my brain is struggling hard.
Hiragana at least is phonetic, sound it out... say the word. Kanji is a whoooole other thing and from what I understand it's just straight memorizing. Something I have never been good at.
Thank goodness at least that they use furigana (where they put the hiragana above the kanji) in the lessons atm. But that's probably going away at some point I'd guess.
I had some leftover beer yesterday, and a really active sourdough starter...
So y'all know where this is going.
I really love Emilie Raffa's basic loaf. I chuck everything in my kitchen aid, give it a whirl. Rest 30 min. Another lil whirl. Then into a container to proof overnight.
Quick shape in the morning and into a banneton. Give it like an hour or two, slice the top and bung it into the dutch oven for 50 min with the lid on. Perfection
Tomorrow I WFH and I'm going to make enchiladas, with sauce from scratch.
I'm so excited. Never done it before, but I have a few recipes to riff off, and my friend who is Mexican has given me several tips (but no recipe cuz they learned how to do it via vibes, which is valid AF, lol).
I would like my groceries to arrive soon please, so I can have a damn shower.
I've done basically all my chores today: sheets and blanket (busting out the spring weighted blanket!), baked a lemon chiffon cake (it's cooling now), swept my bedroom as part of the slow plan to reclaim my sanctuary, took out compost, loaded and turned on the dishwasher...
I'm a rockstar and now I'd like to be a less sweaty and dusty rockstar.
Boy oh boy this was an emotionally draining week, and especially last 24hrs.
Tomorrow I'm drawing a hard line for work and muting the group chat and locking myself out of my email (via Forest App) so that I can have a full day with no work stuff.
Technically that will start tonight with my player-DnD game. My himbro Wild Magic Barbarian Hanami is so fun to play. She's an absolute unit 🤣
Then DMing tomorrow morning and introducing a new downtime mechanic!
Baked the smol focaccia. Still very unimpressed with the thickness. Maybe it's not so much the rise as it is that I need to increase the amount of dough.
Not getting the open crumb (at least on the last one), but maybe that's because there isn't enough for it to work with.
Also, I worked on cleaning the living room disaster while it baked instead of curling up with my book. Because I am a rock star. Couch is all clean and Febreezed now.
Tomorrow I start work! I'm excited and oh so very nervous.
I want to, mostly, take today as a rest day...
But, at the ripe old age of 40, I'm realizing that I actually DO derive dopamine and endorphins from just like... ¿?¿Adulting™¿?¿
Who IS she?!
It's true. Idk when it happened, I don't hate it? Spending all day in burrito mode with video games doesn't hit the same as it used to when there are Things™ to do.
So today's task is cleaning out the upstairs freezer.
🍞 Start the focaccia so it can proof overnight and bake tomorrow for Monday's lunch
🧼 Clean off the island from all the associated stuff that piled up yesterday so I can make dinner
🎲 DM my Ghibli campaign tonight
👖 Dry AND PUT AWAY my laundry
I accomplished everything on this list so far except putting the laundry away.
The plan is to grab it from the dryer and put away omw to bed this evening (putting my clothes away is easy when I have the executive function to do so!)
Feeling good and productive today. Didn't have as much time for personal gaming... but am taking satisfaction and pleasure in doing my Adulting™ stuff.
The campaign tonight was great. Characters faced with some moral/ethical choices.
I did not want to, I thought of every reason not to... but I did it, I cleaned my fridge.
I did not fully clear out the doors. I grabbed the obvious old/expired stuff, but I didn't empty and wipe them down. A project for later, or another day.
Pics to follow later today. The crisper drawers are still out and air-drying.
Things I would really like to find the spoons to be better about doing:
🧼 Resetting the kitchen back to baseline every evening
🍱 Eating an actual lunch every day (apparently a handful of crackers isn't lunch?)
🥕 Go to the farmer's market and Asian market regularly
I think having a job is going to help with the last two a bit more. If I'm already out then stopping by the market takes less spoons. And I'll need to bring a lunch on days when I work at the barn.
