#Furiosa seems extremely niche. Casual audiences with only a marginal interest in the franchise may enjoy it but perhaps only to a limited extent. The diehard #MadMax#fan whose investment in the world of these movies is conflated with their investment in Max's perspective will probably dislike it.
I personally loved Furiosa, but throughout my multiple viewings of these movies, one constant has been that I find Max cool to watch but have little interest in him as a person/character and more of a figure around which other characters circle. Apart from the first act of the first movie, the scenes where Max is humanised mostly happen in Fury Road, the Mad Max movie where he isn't (quite) the protagonist.
I think of Furiosa as a better execution of the kind of mythic tendencies that Beyond Thunderdome tried to go for. That it does this without Max makes it an even more impressive feat of storytelling.
The gasoline mayhem is breathtaking but gets fatiguing, unlike its more focused predecessor, Fury Road. Both Alyla Browne and Anya Taylor-Joy are noteworthy Furiosas. Though their presence isn't enough to save this overlong prequel from a spluttering narrative. What saddens me most is that it's focused too much on the action to build on the feminist fury alive in its sequel.
Just got back from seeing Furiosa, a movie I totally forgot was even a thing until my friend invited me to see it, and I’m so glad I went. It’s an amazing prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, which I’m going to have to watch again very soon to refresh my memory.
I haven’t seen Fury Road in several years, so I wasn’t able to connect all the dots while watching Furiosa, but even so, I enjoyed Furiosa immensely. The cinematography, direction, and choreography of the chase scenes were brilliant, but so were the character driven scenes. For me, the story occasionally got lost in the visual spectacle of the film, but by no means did it reduce my enjoyment of it.
I also like how even though it’s a dystopian story, there is still some dark humor in it. And much like Fury Road, I found Furiosa to be quite “artsy” for a mainstream Hollywood film.
I’ll definitely be adding Furiosa to my own movie collection once the disc is released.
They turned #MadMax into a Disney-Marvel like crap. No rhythm, no cool design, no blood, not metal at all. After loving #FuryRoad more than any other movie of its decade, this #Furiosa is SO disappointing. The only movie of the whole saga that is boring and slow.
"Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" is out and according to the A.V. Club's Tara Bennett (not usually a fan of prequels), it's good. Here's her review of the movie, which stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. We want to know: Which of these George Miller movies is your favorite?
After Thor, Chris Hemsworth says he relished throwing the superhero 'rules' out the window to play the villain in 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.' As for capes, "Hate 'em," he says. "So impractical."
New ship for #LiberationGame -- the garbage scowl. Even though the game is inspired by UK scifi I have to slip in a bit of Australian post-apocalyptic fetish aesthetic every now and then.
Luckily it doubles as a "are you mummy" / cyberman tear drop kind of thing too.

Concept Art Book Alert!
I remember "The Road Warrior" new in 1981, watching his "Mad Max," origin on VHS, then meeting Auntie Entity & Master-Blaster to go "Beyond Thunderdome" in '85... A 4-yr journey to an apocalypse. It took 5x as long to get to "Fury Road." Now, 9 yrs later, catch up with their world before seeing the Max-less origin of "Furiosa!"
