Up Close With the Completed 3.2-Gigapixel #LSST#Camera
Engineers at the #SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory have completed work on the Legacy Survey of #Space and Time camera. The device is the world's largest digital camera and will be the centerpiece of a 10-year mission to map the night sky from the Vera C. Rubin #Observatory in #Chile.
Simulated Solar System objects are now part of Rubin's Data Preview 0 ☄️ That's great news for Solar System scientists preparing to use #LSST—they can now test their analysis tools using the Rubin Science Platform (data.lsst.cloud)!
Scientists have found two interstellar objects so far: 'Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov. With the Legacy Survey of Space & Time (#LSST), they'll find many more.
While it's hard to predict how many, one thing's for sure: Solar System science will enter a new era of discovery with Rubin!
