Listen. Just for those Apple app authors crowing about how exciting #iOS17 is and how they’re starting to code for that. Even #iOS16. Just understand that iPad Air 2’s, and god knows how many other “legacy” devices that actually still work perfectly fine, CANNOT be updated beyond 15.7.9. I have my Air 2 open and on a stand with #Trello right now, and THANKFULLY #MonaApp also still runs on it as do many of the other apps I use. But please, PLEASE - especially if your app just does text or checkboxes or notifications, right - because you’ve been able to manipulate that stuff since iOS1 or so - PLEASE don’t make your app depend on minimum iOS16 or 17. Mona didn’t. Follow their lead.
People on older devices don’t give a toss “what percentage of Apple users as a whole are using iOSx”. Believe it. The Air2 works fine, as does my iPhone13 Pro on 15.4.1.
For anyone who has been unable to connect their #Zoomax#BRAILLE#eReader to their #iPhone since sometime after the initial release of #iOS16 I finally was able to do it. I have tried so many things, but it finally worked after it occurred to me to reset the #Zoomax before trying. Hoping this can help another frustrated #Zoomax user.
Here's something that's been annoying me for a while. I want to get notified of new emails when they arrive on my iPhone. So I made sure that notifications are turned on for the mail app in the settings, all that...
I still don't get notified of new emails immediately when they arrive, and for that matter, the mail app still shows no unread email despite there being at least one.
Anyone's got any idea what the hell is up with that and how to get it working as I want? #email#ios#iOS16
So, yesterday evening and continuing this morning, I decided to try out the voice control feature of iOS. Basically this allows you to control the whole phone with only your voice. You just speak the action you want to perform, and they're done for you.
I was impressed. It's nowhere near perfect, but for what it is, it's actually quite capable right now. It still needs to be improved, but it can still be usable. I find the idea amazing.
One of the things that is currently a big problem, at least as far as I'm aware, is that if you've got both a motor disability and blindness, you can't use this, and the reason why that is, is because you have to know the exact name of the option, app, or icon you want to use. If I say for example "tap skip ad" it will do it. But you have to know that there is a button with this name.
It can display an overlay for you to help you figure out what to say, but that still doesn't help any if you're blind, as far as I know. #accessibility#blind#iOS#iOS16
So, I've finally bitten the bullet, reverted my jailbreak, and am upgrading to iOS 16. What 3rd-party speech synthesis providers are available for me to use without needing a Mac to install them from source? I know eSpeak-ng is one, but are there any others? #TTS#blind#accessibility#a11y#apple#iPhone#iOS16
#iOS16
