Back in ’94 I had a roomate for around 3 weeks. He was a busker and performed in various pubs around Montreal. He was, to this day, without a doubt the best classical jazz flamenco guitarist I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. He would often play so intensly that he would pass/grey-out. I knew him simply as “Yanni” or “Yanny”. He played as cutaway 6 string classical guitar. He left while I was travelling and I never saw or heard from him again. (1/2)
A few time while I noodled around on my six string he would come and sit and teach me some simple to play but great sounding little riffs and chord progressions.
My Friday ask, if anyone know him, or has any idea where he is, I’d love to see what he’s up to today, in the hopes he is still playing. Please retoot/share.
Flamenco v3.5 was just released, introducing MQTT support, reducing the number of "refresh" buttons in the add-on to just one, and showing an overall farm status in the web frontend.
It includes support for packing OpenVDB files, fixes a long-standing issue submitting files on Windows, and has some other bugfixes and internal improvements.
A Multicultural Song
'Soledad Nórdica' is a classical art song inspired by popular Spanish dances and records of both early flamenco music and Danish folk music. Spanish and Danish cultures are intertwined in a song that is neither exclusively Spanish nor Danish, but rather a fusion of both.
On our last day in Seville, we ran across flamenco street performers -- dancer, singers, and guitarist -- who were pretty good. We saw a flamenco show earlier in the trip, but no photos were allowed.
With the drab street background, B&W images seemed appropriate. Here's the collection ...
It has some nice new features, like clustering of workers, automatic detection of the project's top-level directory, and many more. The download page links to the entire change log.
Flamenco is the render farm created by Blender Studio.
Here's something to send you into the weekend with a smile: A Tiny Desk concert from Spanish singer Omar Montes. He melds flamenco and hip-hop as he sings and raps over the beat of clapping hands, telling his story as a child of Roma heritage growing up on the streets of Madrid.
"Friday night in San Francisco" by Al Di Meola, John MacLaughlin and Paco De Lucia has to be one of the best albums ever in the history of #music (that's at least my opinion today). An exquisite mix of #Flamenco, #Jazz and a bunch of other influences. I think it even qualifies to #interdisciplinary research project.
Played only with the three #guitars and the public - the energy of the live performance is palpable in the the recording.
Came out #OTD in 1981. #guitar
According to some, #WestAfrica is a hotspot of the most talented guitarists around. I agree, but I freely admit I've been biased for a long long time now.
This is Fanta Bourama by Djelimady Tounkara. Considering the above statement, he's mixing in so many styles in this, from #flamenco to jeli ngoni-innspired melodies to #jazzy chromaticism, with immaculate technique and flair, and he makes it all sound effortless. He used to be in the legendary Rail Band before going solo, and is rightfully considered an African #guitar hero. Though not as famous—globally-speaking—as Ali Farka Touré (who occasionally played with the Rail Band’s competition, Les Ambassadeurs), he’s of that same generation of musical pioneers. #music#musodon#musodons#ethnomusicology#Mali#Africa#guitarist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeYN2QW5qrc
Oh hell! Have Mansa as well; an atmospheric and expressive instrumental track progressing to a danceable groove. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAA9baZ4wCI
