🔥 CSS hot take: I'm beginning to think any design system that defines style values via anything other than CSS variables — ex: Sass, JavaScript, TypeScript — is essentially doing it wrong.
I am of the opinion that publishing a standalone file with all the CSS variables used in a project is probably the most widely compatible future-facing approach.

If you work on building, maintaining , or creating #DesignSystems, this database is a great reference tool — and it's searchable by component, concept, and of course, #DesignSystem
It's a long shot (hi to my 11 followers here 👋😀) but I am looking at existing literature on the topic of "System of systems" (in the specific context of #DesignSystems).
I have already read everything that Google returned me, and searched in Design System News (thanks @sturobson for your relentless work 🙏).
If you have any article, post, podcast, talk, video, anything you think I should read on the topic, can you share it with me? Thx 🙏
PS: boosts (retoots?) for reach are more than welcome 😉
Fun challenge from the folks at CVS. Here’s a look at my Day 1 submission.
There is not enough context to annotate, and context is necessary in accessibility. I created my own context here, imagining this to be a persistent modal dialog.
Probably would write better alt text given the full image.
Still debating if I should mark breadcrumbs as a nav landmark, I feel like I should but I see Gov.uk not doing it. Is it not that practical? Question for @joelanman, hehe.
Our open-source design system is a tool used in all of our web projects which allows us to put together a research-driven, deployment-ready site in hours rather than days or weeks.
I feel like we need more coverage of humble everyday #designsystems in use at small to medium sized organizations. I think design systems folks are so inundated with ‘Here’s how we built a design system for Massive Multivertical Mega Corp' coverage that they internalize a need to 'live up to' that kind of system.
In my experience, most design systems do not have to be resilient to this kind of entropy. Most design systems do not need to operate at these scales. It can be simpler.
A few lifetimes worth of consulting and #designsystems work has gone into building Luro. If you build for the web, we think it's something you're going to really love. Thanks again to everyone who has given feedback.
If all goes well, tomorrow I'll do a Twitch stream and give a little grand tour of how it all works. I can answer questions if you got 'em.
If you miss it, that's okay, I'll make it a regular thing and do more video content. Thanks and hope you find it useful.✌️🧡
There are many design systems from lots of banks and corporations appearing online that are touted as accessible. I have found accessibility issues with many of them. However none that I have viewed advise the developer to test for accessibility before implementing into production. #accessibility#designSystems
