Idk why not at this point. The #BridgyFed critics got like everything they wanted. Everything is pretty much #optin. And because of that it's difficult to follow from here the artists I follow at #Bluesky. :satsuki_sadge:
You could say "just ask each one of them to follow you then", but that's easy for you to say. I don't like looking like an unsolicited jerk asking if they want to hear the words of Jesus Christ or something. Which is how I see some of you here on fedi btw. Damn evangelists. No different from techbros or FOSSbros
Now I do think the early stages should be opt-in like a beta as it is right now to iron out the bugs (and there are plenty) before being available fully to the public. But I have a feeling this is never gonna go #optout as it should've been because of the harshness of those ignorant IANALs who do not really understand the #GDPR and other #privacy laws... :reisensweat:
Slowly, but surely my Mastodon posts (this one included) are showing up on Bluesky. Bridgy.fed kicks in. Thanks to @snarfed.org@snarfed.org for all the hard work.
When he built a bridge to connect Bluesky to Mastodon and other ActivityPub-powered platforms, @snarfed.org@snarfed.org started a new chapter for the fediverse. The software engineer opens up to @mike about his rollercoaster ride in the latest episode of Dot Social:
The same thing that drove me nuts about the BridgyFed/BlueSky bridge discourse also drives me nuts with the Threads discourse. :neofox_what: Why isn't there a fediblock level that lets admins default to suspending a server, but allows users to opt back into federating with them? Is there a technical reason for it?
I really don't think it should've been on the BridgyFed developer to build an opt-in system that rightfully should've already been in Mastodon, the same way I don't think blocking Threads outright is the best solution (granted it's better than openly federating, hence why they're suspended here). Why doesn't Mastodon have a built-in system for letting users opt-in to federating with a server? :confused_dog:
@verge Great episode! Truly embarrassing regarding the culture regarding the #BridgyFed mention. You would hope that adults could handle and behave themselves better, oh well.
Glad #minds is here but the integration is still not great. I wonder how many people used it and then decided to join a native #ActivityPub server once they realized they could keep/recreate the social graph they had over there.
I haven't used it. I have my doubts it will ever be as open as what we have here, but maybe it will be even better. Hoping #bridgyfed will work well ASAP. AFAIK nostr doesn't have the basic moderation that good conversations require.
I want to add my voice supporting Ryan Barrett's #bridgyfed project.
The #Mastodon#HOA has outed itself as intolerant & abusive as the worst of the twitter trolls.
The HOA tries to impose a minority view on the entire fediverse using abuse & viral outrage tactics in the face of software & protocols that do exactly the opposite.
I noticed this dynamic when I first joined & listened to the cultural differences.
Good morning. The next phase begins with this news. I personally always felt Bluesky might prove more versatile and capable of rapid growth than many AP enthusiasts wanted to contemplate. (And @mmasnick ain't wrong about much.)
Bluesky opens up federation, letting anyone run their own server.
Onko jollain tavalla mahdollista nyt siis tavalla tai toisella yhdistää Mastodon-tili ja Bluesky-tili niin, että yksi tili tuottaa sisältöä molempiin ja jos on, niin miten se tehdään?
Have you heard about #BridgyFed? Using this free service, I have been able to link my four #Substack publications to the #Fediverse so that each now has a handle that can be followed on #Mastodon and other #ActivityPub platforms. Here they are:
I don't like the use of the word "fight" here, but this is a good overview of the issues and what's at stake.
Money quote: "Soon, Meta’s Threads app plans to become interoperable with ActivityPub networks like Mastodon. Flipboard and #Automattic, owner of #WordPressDotCom and #tumblr are also betting on ActivityPub."
Not attempting to get #Religious by using this line “"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" Some of you have this self-righteous view of #Mastodon as if it’s perfect and never caused harm. You state as if there are not moderation issues amongst 30k plus servers. It’s odd for you to call out #Bluesky which is just a year old regarding moderation yet it hasn’t had anywhere near the reputation and moderation issues that Mastodon has. How does that make sense?
I’m also tired of seeing Jack Dorsey brought up. When most of you came from #Twitter once Musk purchased it. Dorsey wasn’t so bad that you used his product for years. He is not the CEO of #Bluesky is 1/3 of the board. He uses #Nostr and Twitter more than he ever used bsky which he’s long since deleted his account. Some of you mentioned #bridgyfed being a harm to minorities and trans persons. #Fedi is way more harmful and there’s insane amounts of trans people on bsky many of whom would never use Mastodon btw
"#Mastodon is the most established decentralised #socialweb app to date. For anti-establishment Mastodonians, Dorsey’s involvement was strike one. Strike two came when #Bluesky decided to create its own protocol instead of using an existing one, like #ActivityPub. Now, the debate over #BridgyFed is something like a foul tip ahead of strike three."
A great breakdown of Bridgy Fed and the whole situation. I personally am excited for the project, as there are people I want to follow on #Bluesky and I also want them to be able to follow me, without me having to manage two accounts.
I hope you don't let people harrass you @snarfed.org@snarfed.org You're doing some really interesting work! (You also seem to be taking vitriol and feedback very well!) Good luck!
