I did some testing on a Windows machine and tried out #Bitlocker#encryption for the first time… I'm shocked. This thing is black magic.
How did they manage to do full disk encryption that can be toggled on/off instantly? I was expecting it to rewrite the whole drive, like what would happen with LUKS on Linux OSes/utils, but no: even a whole existing C:\ drive with Win installed, you just enable encryption, it reboots in seconds instead of minutes/hours, and it's done.
Wait you can use a #Bitlocker encrypted drive on #Linux? What is this magic? I was already prepared for so many hoops and pain, but no. Just plug-and-play on #GNOME#Nautilus.
> How long does it take to steal your Bitlocker keys? Try 43 seconds, using less than $10 in hardware. Encrypting your hard drive is good security. If you’re running Windows, the most popular s…
...🧵 Where does this most annoying of operating systems (not counting TempleOS here) even store the keys?!?
Shouldn't I, the User, the owner of the data, know a little detail like this?!
It's MY FSCKING DATA, for fox sake! I WANT to access it how ever i see fit! 🤬
As far as i'm concerned, #Windows10 has become a crypto Trojan #Malware. As i said before - i've NEVER instructed Windows to #BitLocker encrypt my files!
I'm starting to think that I'd rather give the NSA a backdoor into my whole computer than have to enter a BitLocker recovery key one more fucking time.
@schizanon#Bitlocker showing up every reboot is often a sign of a failing/bad TPM
I would check windows settings for your "security processor" to see if it shows up or if it shows missing
If your PC never had one (you mentioned #AMD ) its possible you had firmware TPM, check your bios settings for fTPM and make sure the setting didnt turn off (if it shows missing in windows that is)
What the fuck man, why is my boot drive suddenly hosed now!? All I did was connect a new wire from my PSU to my GPU and reinstall the GPU drivers. I had to fuck around with #Bitlocker when I disconnected the GPU but it's not asking for my recovery code anymore...
