A new report makes the powerful point that the 'Robbins principle' (that qualified people wishing to progress in [#education] further should expect to find a place) while applied to those who go to #University has never been applied to #apprenticeships.
If we want to address the skills gap (& by extension the UK's #productivity & #inequality problems) then we should stop rationing apprenticeships!
Its a simple but effective idea & the Labour Party should adopt it!
More on the Q. of #skills-based vs. qualification-based employment:
There remains a significant but falling premium for UK #graduates, in part be due to access to the #professions whose degree requirements remain pretty robust.
However, its also worth noting that non-degree employment seems to be shifting into high(er) skills, albeit at a gradual rate (replacing 'over-qualified' graduates?).
Does a slow shift to highly skilled non-degree holders indicate the success of #apprenticeships?

ah, I see. It is a problem intrinsic to interest-bearing loans then, that you are addressing.
I am not familiar with the #UK, but in the #US, due to exploding college fees and stagnant real incomes over the last decades, the same is true for college graduates.
I know that #nurses in #Anglosaxon countries are often not going through #apprenticeships but have a college degree. I also know they are allowed to do more of a "doctor's job" IDK about relative pay...
...(Dr. vs. nurse UK (%) in comparison to other countries.)
Regarding #apprenticeships in the UK, IDK about income. In many countries, you get paid by the employer (though less than a full-time employee) and don't have to pay tuition fees.
How about the #UK?
