Dxpedition to Herring Island with @DropTableFoxes and @alexhelvetica is about to begin. You do not want to miss having this island in your logs.
Likely 40m SSB. ETA about an hour. Spots will be posted here
Since there is a continual thunderstorm threat today, may as well build an ultra light 28.5' QRP random wire with 26AWG Stealth #diyantenna for use with my Z817 Autotuner and #ft817 plus with #HB1B#amateurradio#hamradio#antenna
Meanwhile, down on the dragonfly ranch, the house music is thumping, the JS8call console is hot and nation wide, and that makes me feel pretty good about something...
I think it's probably a pretty good philosophy to find things to like about life when we can as we wade into the future, as it's probably going to get pretty fucked, pretty regular.
That being said....I think it is of note that on the two hottest days (on average, on earth) in recorded history, we also had the sun open up a giant hole and retch up a big blob of itself, which it then vomited in our direction at a few million miles per hour. We've been getting bathed in all that (and the various lateral effects) for the past few days.
That shit ain't helpin', J/S.
I'm thinking about getting it together and getting right with my treadmill, in case I gotta get mobile or something. Not that I couldn't now, but it wouldn't be pretty, and you never know just how long you got until you have to deal with/run from some sort of catastrophe.
#amateurradio sort of afternoon.
Pretty good conditions on 10m / 28MHz with strong North American stations although the QSB was also strong.
Got into the New York 10m repeater and made a couple of contacts.
I would have got into the London Ontario repeater but it was hogged by a couple of blokes talking politics for over an hour!
I resorted to #FT8 and got Kentucky, Sth Carolina & Georgia before getting bored.
Still nothing heard on my new 4m / 70MHz handheld!
Fun afternoon of #hamradio at Discovery Park here in Seattle. Lots of questions from other park goers. Chatted live with other #PNW#amateurradio operators from @cascadiaradio (join us there!)
I just witnessed Hawaii's Lt. Governor on ABC News Now state the only communications available in fire areas are satellite phones. I'm dismayed & shocked that some elected officials are clueless the beneficial role #AmateurRadio#hamradio plays during disaster events. I've been fortunate to have assisted in several disaster situations. Makes me PROUD to be an AMATEUR RADIO OPERFATOR.
I sure wouldn't get any Olympic style points for this throw with my backward, between the legs, over the head, and a slight twist arborist line throw for deploying of my 40m @Tuftelndotnet #EFHW#endfedhalfwave antenna almost 50'. #AmateurRadio#Hamradio
One of the things I think we need in the #AmateurRadio community is to complete the blanket of high-orbit satellite coverage with two or three additional birds like QO-100 and link them together so that there's contiguous coverage. Wouldn't that be amazing? #HamRadio
As much as I dislike power poles, and I do significantly dislike them, at this point it seems like trying to use anything else is like trying to use different AC electrical plugs and sockets. Seems like a lot of hams, well, went ham over them and made them into a de facto amateur radio standard.
