Why does #AppleTV not have a built-in browser? It doesn't make sense to have to cast a website to my AppleTV using #Airplay while I have a friggin' computer connected directly to my TV
There’s far too little public complaining about Apple #HomePod. It must be the least functional product they make. I have a new HomePod and a HomePod mini, I use them every day, and I experience a “not working” event probably once every two days. WiFi is hard, I guess?
Follow-up: Does anyone have any recommendations for #HomePod alternatives? I don’t care much about smart speaker functionality (although I like the HomeKit integration), so I really just need good quality #AirPlay speakers that don’t require 10-20 minutes of daily troubleshooting. Help?
As I'm more and more annoyed of the #HomePods I wonder if there is any option to add a fully local speaker that runs through #HomeAssistant but accepts #AirPlay 2.
Bonus if I could add a microphone later to use the Voice Assistant of Home Assistant in the future, but that wouldn't be the focus now, as there are options to have speaker and microphones separate.
I'm just sick of Apples updates that male the HomePods worse and worse. And I want to get rid of devices that only can be controlled via cloud.
This is what I’m currently working on: A Hifi streaming device for Apple Music. It shall run on a @Raspberry_Pi with a HifiBerry DAC attached. The streamer shall have a touchscreen and shall be remote controllable using an iPhone app. Additionally it shall support AirPlay (recieving audio only) and Spotify Connect. #RaspberryPi#applemusic#spotify#airplay#hifi#streamer
I noticed something really bizarre that causes #macOS to lose its bearings: #AirPlay.
Whenever I AirPlay a video while also connected to my Mac mini file server, there’s a chance that my Mac will freeze up. And if I’m actually streaming video from my Mac mini, there’s a chance that my Mac mini will PANIC. AirPlay and AirDrop may be the cause of all the panics that I experienced.
Although I’ve been submitting all the panic reports, I might try to pin this down and get some sysdiagnoses as it’s happening. There’s a possibility that #AWDL’s aggressive monopolization of the WiFi radio is playing rather poorly with macOS’s network mounts when both are using WiFi.
I’ve also noticed that #mDNSResponder seems to be aggressively dropping my network file mounts when they are disconnected. If I can’t find my Mac mini file server mount on my Networks list, I’ve resorted to turning WiFi off then on again, which usually brings the server back in Finder. I wonder if these #Bonjour issues are also associated with #AWDL and #AirPlay…
I don’t know who was flicking switches in the bowels of Apple Music and AirPlay Central a few weeks ago, but whatever they did, it made it much slower and generally more awful.
Handoff updating is really slow, and the Music app & AirPlay controls can take ages to reflect what’s playing on a HomePod. Often if you transfer audio from iPhone to a HomePod, It’ll transfer but stop playing. You have to hit play again.
It’s not good enough for such expensive hardware. 😕
