Now free for all to read... I caught the Overland train from Melbourne to Adelaide - passing attractive scenery and historic stations on the way. The food was good too!
Yes I'm at Melbourne's Southern Cross Station, about to head off on a proper shiny streamlined long-distance train to Adelaide (and from there by train to Perth).
As always, I'll be writing posts about my trip exclusively for my patrons at Patreon... feel free to join at https://www.patreon.com/timrichards
I'm probably a bit late on this one (#SouthAustralia doesn't occupy much space in my brain) but holy hell, there is not an interchange between the 3 southern #adelaide metro #train lines and the glenelg #tram line.
The red and white line on the attached map goes DIRECTLY PAST Goodwood Station but does not stop. Talk about a missed opportunity!
Any plans to rebuilt the tram overpass and station or has everyone just accepted this is how it is?
Mr Crow was naughtily checking out my veggie seeds that I had left out on the verandah table. He'd removed some cover labels from the box, with an eye, I suspect, to punching that beak through a huge bag of seeds of Autumn Green Manure mix. Funny boy! I opened the door, and he flow off. I had to smile. If I delayed in opening the house up, I would have come out to seeds (and crows) everywhere I suspect.
Into the freezer today, lots of cherry tomatoes and cooked horse gram lentils. Separately.
I wanted some good old Aussie tins of beetroot yesterday, but apparently you can't get them for love or money. Anyone know why? #Australia#Adelaide
During the COVID lockdown years I used a fruit and veg online service. Restaurant quality produce. Amazingly good and no more expensive than supermarkets. I miss those guys. Once the restaurants opened up again they shut down home delivery.
The video games club at Adelaide Uni has been victim to the incompetency of the UofA's facility team AGAIN. For the second time, they've attempted to dispose of the club's CRT TVs, and we've just learned that they succeeded this time.
The club is looking to rebuild their fleet of CRTs. If you know anyone in the #Adelaide region with a TV that deserves a second lease of life, please get in touch.
Back when I lived in Adelaide, one of my favourite things to do during the weekend is to head to Glenelg or Broadway and just write in a cafe by the beach. I do miss this.
Morning, Toots! So, I’m working through my packing list for tomorrow’s flight to #Adelaide, and remembered I must take this gem of #FamilyHistory to talk over with Dad - he spent the war years on a farm nearby, and has rellies still there. Other things on my list- birthday card for Dad, and this time, I won’t forget my #SleepPhones, my soft headband with the speakers in, which I use to listen to #podcasts at night, to get to sleep. Earbuds didn’t cut it! Are you a list maker?
Who knew that I lived in such a dangerous place? 🤣
FYI when I moved to #Perth in 1999 there was a serial killer murdering women and I was a tad worried about it being a freshie on her first overseas jaunt ☠️😬
Ps: Adelaide was so quiet and provincial maybe that's why serial killers liked it there 😆
Looks like we have a new Australian Chess Champion. Rishi Sardana drew his game today, but his nearest competitor, Frederick Lichfield, lost which leaves an unassailable 1.5 point gap with only one game to go.
Sardana has dominated the event and is a worthy winner.
Thanks to @lichess for providing the broadcast of the event.
This article has a huge amount of condescension towards South Australia that east-coast capital city people used to show. I was disappointed to read it. 😩 Didn't that die out years ago? #Melbournite In a gesture of retaliatory defensiveness, I hope Brisbane wins on Saturday #AFL 🥺
No wonder my brain is bleh today... (and for those playing overseas...that's deg Celcius) Should've known to add a few high temperatures 🌡 days off for NaNoWriMo. Did some tidying up.of chapter finished last night. #AdelaideSummer#tooHot#Adelaide#authorLife#writersLife#nanowrimo
New at my Patreon... I spent two days in the middle of nowhere, rolling across the Nullarbor Plain aboard the Indian Pacific train. Here's what it was like:
I need a new mattress. Trying to get a grip on current prices. So many mattress vendors don't put their prices online, which is a bit hostile. Others seem to charge over $8000, which is exactly what I'm not going to pay.
If anyone knows of a good mattress shop run by sane people in #Adelaide I'd appreciate the info. I'm hoping to avoid dealing with Hardly Normal if I can but they at least put their prices online.
Online-only vendors are of no use to me, for fucked back reasons. I need to poke and prod and sprawl on the thing before I commit.
Here's the latest variant picture for South Australia.
The next challenge to EG.5.* "Eris" (56%) looks like either XBB.1.5.* "Kraken" (16%) or BA.2.86.* "Pirola" (10%), which looks to have started community transmission.
My early morning ritual; a walk in Veale Gardens #Adelaide just as the sun's rising, giving the ducklings a little feed of baby peas & corn, and taking some photos, before a sit-down to process them while having coffee back at home :)
