My audio VM works generally well (even great) except for one problem:
Live doesn't see the content in shared folders.

Does anybody have an idea how to solve this? Note that the guest OS (win) can access normally everything in the shared folders, and it's only Live that doesn't (without errors or anything).

So anyway, here's my of the day and it'd be great if you could boost for visibility since the -> -> -> crows is... tiny?

7.0.18 is out now with more fixes to prevent UBSAN warnings and a fix for an issue with incorrectly displayed time stamps within mounted shared folder for Guest Additions, as well as a fix an issue that caused a host system crash when the VM used a bridged or host-only network adapter. I spent most of my Saturday playing with my new DIY Framework 13 @frameworkcomputer and it was super fun & amazing! 💖 So far, I:

  • Installed 38 and discovered it uses DNF (not APT)
  • Got then immediately uninstalled it in favor of QEMU/KVM
  • Migrated from 1Password to
  • Got Slack then immediately uninstalled it since it conflicted with Bitwarden installation

Plus I went down a few rabbit holes here and there, because that’s how you learn ! 😂

I have noticed a few Linux distros which include:

virtualbox-guest-additions

Preinstalled even though Virtual Box is not installed. It seems easy enough to uninstall, as nothing seems to depend on it. But it does beg the question of why it is included.

i’m a mac user, and Im experimenting with Linux distros using Virtual Box. Manjaro KDE seems pretty good, and it’s running Plasma 5.27. I want to try Plasma 6 — So I downloaded KDE Neon after the megarelease. it tries to run, but it doesn’t complete. It gets stuck on a black screen inside Virtual Box. Is there a known issue with KDE Neon in Virtual Box?

If you cannot use , which is better: Mac OS X or Windows

I ask because I am starting a job where the IT department can only supply me with a generic Windows PC or . I actually want to run or something with Linux (Guix OS) on the host machine, since most of the software I rely on is for Linux. I have tried but it has never been a good user experience for me.

I am leaning toward Mac OS X just because it seems to require less memory than Windows but both Mac and Windows ask for a minimum of 4 GB, and I want the host OS to take as little memory as possible and leave as much as possible for the guest Linux OS. Also, its a system with , and in my experience the native versions of most Linux software work pretty well on Mac OS X.

Does anyone have experience with all three operating systems who can offer advice?

Rhapsody in VirtualBox. It's so cool to see these early versions of MacOS and to see what's changed (and what hasn't).

Managed to get Rhapsody DR2 installed, this time using a custom video driver that enables color! See here:

Cyberus Technology (my employer) just released a KVM backend allows VirtualBox to run virtual machines utilising the Linux KVM hypervisor instead of the custom kernel module used by standard VirtualBox.
