Happy #sunday Friends! 😀
Looking for the perfect comfort binge-watch? I've got you covered with my favorite detective shows that masterfully blend mystery, wit, and humor. Three timeless classics and one fantastic new addition! 🍿 📺 🕵️♂️
The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin. I knew when I first saw the trailer of this vaguely historical comedy series with Noel Fielding in the title role that me and my daughter would love it. And indeed we did, laughed wholeheartedly at the silliness of it all, and the many dick jokes brought on by the lead character's first name. It's nowhere near on par with Blackadder, but it's clearly in the same vein. The series reinvents Dick Turpin (one of the most notorious and ruthless highwaymen in English history) as a shallow but good-hearted man ticking all the boxes of modern deconstruction (vegetarian, gender-fluid, etc.) who falls into highway robbery by accident and likes the fame that comes with it. It's a laugh, although I doubt I'll be watching it again (unlike Blackadder). #tvseries#comedy#history#noelfielding
Have you ever counted how many times they say "cocksucker" in HBO's Deadwood? ... 😎 I personally think Calamity Jane's and Mr. Wu's interpretation is the best ... 😺

Great series. Mysterious, with a beautiful setting... Made in Iceland
I liked the environment, which I partially imagined for my game that I am currently working on. The presence of an active volcano and ash adds a lot of visuals to the environment
💜 On http://www.ladyteruki.com I've been writing (in ꜰʀ) about television from all over the planet, for over a decade and a half ! I believe in being curious about the world through its TV shows.
Reviews, history, fun facts... so far 6700+ publications have been made available for free, ad-free.
But I'm a disabled person living under the poverty line, so I have a Ko-fi where people can support me : https://ko-fi.com/ladyteruki
🇹🇷 If you like single lawyers looking for love, and #AllyMcBeal didn't age all that well for you (don't worry, it didn't age well for anyone), then you might want to look into the latest Turkish romcom on Netflix, #KimlerGeldiKimlerGeçti (alias #ThankYouNext).
🇺🇸🇮🇪 Does the public still listen to true crime podcasts with the same enthusiasm as a few years ago ? American Irish dramedy #Bodkin seems to think so, but is only superficially interested in its podcast's investigation anyway.
🇨🇦 In our patriarcal societies, what power do women have against men ? French Canadian series #Discrètes asks this with an added power imbalance : its lead characters being janitors, and their aggressor being a lawyer. A short, but smart series that's not for the faint of heart.
🇺🇸 One of the tropes I like the least in television also happens to be one of the most common tropes in conservative television : go back home in your native small town, life is simpler there, happiness was there all along. US series #TheWayHome brings a fantasy twist to this, but I'm not sure it helps.
🇮🇷 There are many reasons to lie, some people even do it professionally. Iranian series #Actor (which arte airs tonight under the international title #TheActor, don't ask) is a wonderful exploration of all the reasons we have to lie... and sometimes, just sometimes, to tell the truth.
🇳🇬 Am I fair when I discuss shows with you, or is my enthusiasm for discovery sometimes getting the best of me ? Well, this wasn't really a dilemma in the case of Nigerian comedy #AwkwardThingsAboutLosingWeight, for once.
🇨🇦 With arte airing the entire miniseries tonight (make sure not to miss it !), I wanted to discuss the Canadian drama #LittleBird, a touching exploration of what it meant for thousands of Indigenous children to have been abducted from their families.
🇨🇦 And as a companion article, you can also read my review of the first episode of French Canadian series #PourToiFlora, which specifically depicts the experience of the children sent to residential schools, and discusses their trauma decades later.
🇮🇪 This review has been 10 years in the making. I've always wanted to tell you about Irish thriller #AnBronntanas, but never found the time. After rewatching the miniseries earlier this month, I finally put words on it. I hope you like chaos !
🇩🇪🇫🇷🇯🇵🇦🇪 This is quite an interesting assortment of four broadcasters from three different continents, that have decided to coproduce #Concordia. In this sci-fi thriller set in a city where everyone is recorded, your private data is supposed to be safer than anywhere else in the world. Not so safe, however, when a murder takes place...
🇹🇭 The women of Thai series #BangkokKhanika (or #BangkokBlossom) didn't choose sex work. As the youngest is almost of age to be auctioned off, the three sisters decide to buy their independence, which will come at a cost...
🇮🇳 Set during the first half of the 20th century in an opulent entertainment neighborhood of Lahore, Indian series #Heeramandi is a sublime but tragic tale about the fate of courtesans in a troubled time. Freedom will not come to them, or to their country, easily.
🇸🇦 I know you're all busy reading the lengthy reviews of this past week (...right ?), so today I'm coming to you with a very simple article about the first episode of #ForsanGraih, a Saudi dramedy about a small soccer club.
🇭🇺 Don't let its international title, #FairyGarden, fool you : Hungarian period drama #Tündérkert is not a fairytale. Rather, it follows the fate of the Principality of Transylvania and the Báthory dynasty at the dawn of the 17th century.
🇰🇪 The future looks bright for Ciku, a radio show host whose career is on the rise despite her insecurities about her weight, which the world never lets her forget about. And yet life is about to get very complicated for her in Kenyan dramedy #BigGirlSmallWorld.
🇦🇺 Jane has always been the whitest Asian she could possibly be, and she would happily say it herself. However, it might be time for her to confront her relationship to her own identity, and that's the very nuanced and awkward question that Australian comedy #WhiteFever attempts to ask her. What will the answer be ?
