Today’s #SpacetoberChallenge is #Future! VOYAGE TO THE TWO ASTEROIDS is a whimsical #watercolor#painting of the #DART mission about to redirect #asteroid Dimorphos. In my view, this mission demonstrating asteroid redirection is the future of planetary protection, and an incredible feat!
For the #Spacetober prompt pulsar I’m sharing my portrait of #astrophysicist Jocelyn Bell Burnell! In 1967, she was a grad student when she discovered the 1st radio pulsar, a highly magnetized, rotating neutron star that emits a beam of EM radiation. This radiation can only be observed when the star is pointed towards us; so, like the light from a lighthouse, it appears to pulse at a precise frequency. 🧵1/n
Today’s #SpacetoberChallenge is #Launch! STARSHIP SPECTRUM is a #watercolor#painting of the first SpaceX Starship launch on April 20, 2023, based on a spectacular photo by Trevor Mahlmann 🤩🚀🌈
Today’s #SpacetoberChallenge is Historic Launch Vehicles! REACHING FOR THE STARS is an #ink#illustration of SpaceX Starship 24 mating with the Falcon Super Heavy booster.
For the #Spacetober prompt ‘historic launch vehicles’ it’s my portrait of #mathematician and NASA scientist Katherine Johnson (1918 – 2020). One of the first Black women employed as a NASA scientist (& its predecessor NACA), she was known for her mastery of complex manual calculations of orbital mechanics & played a pivotal role in the success of the US crewed spaceflights from the beginning.

Today’s #SpacetoberChallenge is #Earth! This is ORBITAL VISTA, a pearlescent watercolor painting of aurora seen from the ISS with a night view of Earth with cities sparkling like diamonds.
Today’s #Spacetober prompt is Earth. The Earth as we know wouldn’t be as hospitable now, with its stable orbit & climate if it weren’t for a catastrophic collision 4.5 billion years ago, known as The Big Splash which gave us our unusually large satellite, the Moon. This linocut print illustrates the formation of the Earth’s Moon in a comic book influenced pop art style. 🧵1/n
Today’s #SpacetoberChallenge is #JWST! This is UNSEEN PILLARS, a pearlescent #watercolor#painting of the Eagle Nebula (M16 star-forming region) as seen by the James Webb Space Telescope.
