The new #Sonos app is getting even worse! After the last update, the local Music Library takes like 5 seconds after launch to even appear, and then AFTER YOU PLAY SOMETHING, IT DISAPPEARS ALTOGETHER.
@stooovie My feelings about #Sonos have been mentioned in previous toots (spoiler: sh1t). I'm currently listening to a playlist using #MusicAssistant - it's very early days but I'm pretty impressed so far 👍 #HomeAssistant
No Sonic Onslaught. @nick has chosen to focus all his afternoon energy on the #Sonos#AskMeAnything, which happens at the same time, 2 PM EDT, 20:00 CEST. If you are a user of accessibility or are simply an ally, he asks you to join him.
@fl0_id Thanks, but that doesn't address the gap ripping out #Sonos will leave - which is the actual speakers (ideally with line-in)/multi-room for the most part.
Depending on how big the gap is, I'm willing to contribute money as part of a crowdfunding effort to build up one of the #FLOSS alternatives to replace #Sonos with, possibly including someone building a hardware business to sell some neat audio relay boxes (with or without an AMP, I guess).
When the #Sonos customer forum censors your post because you said "fuck" in less than 10 minutes but it has been days that you are waiting for a customer support reply... :neocat_facepalm:
I really don't get #Sonos. Instead of alienating their (nerdier) customers, imagine they had an official local extension API:
A lot of #FLOSS developers would recommend them to everyone (b/c most of us can't be bothered to deal with sleek hardware or patented shite like Dolby/HDMI), and they could just leave the local library handling (which they obvs hate) to someone else.
That'd be a marketing boost and give them a platform lock-in.
Instead, they're doing whatever it is they're aiming for?
Okay, I grudgingly bought a #Sonos system years ago because it was just convenient.
The latest update is terrible and breaks all local features - no library, no local services, all search goes to their servers. (Even though they explicitly stated ~2 months ago that v1 search would remain.)
Whatever their business model is it doesn't seem to include customers.
Oh my, a 1.6 rating on the Google store and dropping. Seems I'm not the only very annoyed customer.
Did they not do any testing prior to rollout?
They had a great product and the only thing they had to do was not break it and the occasional refresh.
Seriously, #Sonos is a study in "How not to tech".
@larsmb I've been looking for a #sonos replacement too. But I haven't found anything better yet. Looked like the #denon home line (using the #HEOS system) would be a good contender but it turns out it is even worse. Way less features and a broken local library feature (only supports SMB v1 protocol, which is ancient and insecure) so I stick with sonos for now, using the previous app version with auto updates disabled.
@CerstinMahlow À propos: On my old iPad, which only runs iPadOS 15, they’ve been nagging me for at least a year “Your device is no longer supported, yadda yadda.”
But suddenly it’s good enough for the #Sonos update from hell!?
For anybody who uses #Sonos, you may want to disable auto updates for the app (if it's not too late) - the new revamped S2 app breaks some important features including accessibility, search of local music libraries, alarms... and so far there's no official way to revert to the old version. https://www.stuff.tv/news/why-the-tale-of-sonos-revamped-app-is-a-cautionary-one/
#Sonos really enshittified their app this time. I myself don't care about alarms but NO search in local library? Not even an alphabetic jumplist. You WILL be scrolling forever or succumb to the streaming overlords.
