Pretty good summary of the drawbacks of having a single-user Mastodon instance that result from ActivityPub's architecture (and partially from Mastodon's implementation): https://mull.net/mastodon
It's nice to be in control of your account, but you need to know what you're getting yourself into.
@jglypt Although I see that the base plans don't include Elastic full text search (the one I told you is heavy), that's $5 extra: https://masto.host/about-full-text-search-elasticsearch/. So without that you can search only by hashtags, e.g. "posts with #something", but not "posts that mentioned 'something'".
#LiveNation#TicketMaster#Antitrust#Monopolies: "It's been a minute since Ticketmaster was last in the news, so let's recap. Ticketmaster bought out most of its ticketing rivals, then merged with Live Nation, the country's largest concert promoter, and bought out many of the country's largest music, stage, and sports venues. They used this iron grip on the entire supply chain for performances and events to pile innumerable junk fees on every ticket sold, while drastically eroding the wages of the creative workers they nominally represented. They created a secret secondary market for tickets and worked with ticket-touts to help them run bots that bought every ticket within an instant of the opening of ticket sales, then ran an auction marketplace that made them gigantic fees on every re-sold ticket – fees the performers were not entitled to share in.
The Ticketmaster/Live Nation/venue octopus is nearly impossible to escape. Independent venues can't book Live Nation acts unless they use Ticketmaster for their tickets. Acts can't get into the large venues owned by Ticketmaster unless they sign up to have Live Nation book their tour. And when Ticketmaster buys a venue, it creams off the most successful acts, starving competing venues of blockbuster shows. They also illegally colluded with their vendors to jack up the price of concerts across the board:"
Anything that can't go on forever eventually stops. Monopolies are intrinsically destabilizing and inevitably implode...eventually. Guessing which of the loathesome monopolies that make us all miserable will be the first domino is a hard call, but Ticketmaster is definitely high on my list.

Is it your campus' #LMS, #CMS, #Portal, #Email, etc. that provide value, or your academic programs, faculty, research, etc.?

@talon would you mind testing something for me some time? Trying to figure out how to open tags and linked notes on Mac. Press >> and type something to create a new note called something. Then give it a tag with #something. I can’t figure out how to click on either the linked note or the hashtag. Let me know if you have any luck?
It feels like people are 50%/50% on the search feature on Mastodon and Fediverse in general. Some Fedi software have quite extensive search implemented already in my knowledge. Mastodon barely has any search if you don't count the open text search patch.
@vyr@rolle@fluffgar I suggested having the hashtags in a separate field, and when you search for ‘#something’ it looks into this field. But also have it in the text, minus the “#" symbol, so it can be found when searching for 'something’.
I dont know if this will make it into the final version
New month, new board. In jolly news, I think I'm about halfway through this draft, there are a couple more to go, but I already know what I'm writing next. #PickOnAWriterSeeWhatHappens 😂

My favourite documentary on youtube. Bedhead Bernie already makes amazing videos, and I believe this to be his magmum opus.
