As part of our upgrade to #Sharkey, the instance now comes with avatar decorations.
I've added a few myself, and you're free to try them out, but if there's artsy folk that want to create their own, I'd be happy to add them to the instance.
You can get the design template to help you with the size/positioning.
And once you're done creating your own designs, you can test them out using this preview tool
Why does #Sharkey / #Misskey need an "authenticator app" registered before you can use a hardware key? That doesn't make sense #security wise.
Yeah I know it's to prevent people from just accidentally getting locked out of their accounts, but there should be an option for #FediAdmins to allow this risk. 🤔
Those wanting to try out an alternative to Mastodon, you're welcome to create an account on https://sharkey.world. #Sharkey has a very different layout, but most of the same features as Mastodon, and many features Mastodon hasn't. Just see for yourself, and it's fine to either use it as a second account, or you can decide to migrate your current account to it, if you really like it.
I’ve never woken up to so many notifications before 😵💫😅
The support on my #Sharkey video has been outstanding! I’m really happy people liked the change of direction. Thank you so much to everyone who checked it out!
I would like to do more “#Fediverse story” videos in the future so if you’re working on a project or have a story to tell related to the #Fediverse, please reach out to me. I’d love to share it with everyone 😁:fedi:
It seems like there's a rivalry brewing between #Sharkey and #Iceshrimp on which one's gonna be the definitive "Western #Misskey" of the #fediverse :sagume_think:
One could even say that there's a.. cold war going on between them 🥁:laughing_cirno:
Gibt es im federation.network eine Möglichkeit, die eigenen Re-trööts zu finden (so ähnlich, wie das Aktivitätenprotokoll bei Facebook)? #neuhier#sharkey
Ok, so apparently #Sharkey has ListenBrainz integration, but I'm not sure how it works :neofox_googly_shocked:
There's a text field in the user settings that just says "ListenBrainz", but doesn't explain what I'm supposed to type here. Do I just need to type my username, or am I supposed to copy and paste my user token? :neofox_googly_shocked:
If this gets added in, this will bring in Misskey (and #Sharkey too!) a lot more compatible third-party clients.. :gyate_patchouli_wow: Thus the issue of lack of clients in Misskey is workarounded and we may not need the #Mastodon#API (aka #MastoAPI) after all... :sagume_think:
This also AFAIK makes Misskey the first mainstream #fediverse software out there to support Micropub; earlier than Mastodon! :SuikaWOW:
Hey, @bumble, do you happen to know if lists will work properly soon in #Sharkey? I have the same problem with lists as over at Firefish: They only ever show the last added account's posts. Tried to remake the list already - but the problem persists. :blobbee_sob:
We finally have a statement from the former Firefish owner/lead Developer. It seems that the Firefish site and Gitlab is given to one of the maintainers. Still, I kind of consider it EOL as the new person in charge isn't a programmer. It's pretty much doesn't change anything unless a new lead developer decides to take on the project. I do wish Kainoa the best in his future endeavors.
There are other options, such as Sharkey, IceShrimp and Catodon. However, IceShrimp is doing a rewrite in C#, so it's basically going to be it's own thing, which might be interesting to try, but not something I would use outside of personal use. Same with Catodon, which might use IceShrimp's C# rewrite.
I have a lot of trust in Sharkey's team in making sure something like this doesn't happen while making it community driven. Taking the Glitch-soc approach like with Mastodon will make Sharkey a more viable option since it’s just Misskey with extra features, some making it to mainline Misskey like with some things from Glitch-Soc making it to vanilla Mastodon.
