List of fedi platforms I have tried/use in no particular order:
#Mastodon
Probably most of you reading this is using it, but overall it's a fairly user friendly platform and has gotten people into the fediverse
#PixelFed
Tbh haven't used it much but it seems like it has good potential
Not my kind of thing, but for those who like things more like instagram I'd check it out
#Calckey
What I'm currently using, I really like it so far
It's beautiful and feature-rich
#PeerTube
I use it occasionally as it has some media I do enjoy, but I do wish more people would upload to it
#Funkwhale
Same issue with peertube, not having many people upload
Also felt kinda wonky to work with but may have been the instances I tried
I would like to end this by saying, try new things on fedi
It helps keep the ecosystem healthy and you may find something you like more
Just shipped some improvements to sudo mode, 2fa checkpoint and password resets, besides the redesigned layouts, it now features optional captcha support and implements a random sleep timeout to make brute forcing less useful!
Mein Account auf #pixelfedde@Wolkenreich bekommt irgendwie nicht mit, wenn auf meinen #Mastodon Account (hier) Beiträge editiert werden und selbst die gelöschten erscheinen auf Pixelfed.de noch.
I've been thinking of joining #pixelfed . I wanted to join the art instance once it's possible to register, but in waiting, I realized two things:
I'm a bit impatient. Could anyone recommend which instance might be good for posting drawings, paintings, and prints?
If I made 2 accounts (1 for photography and 1 more like an art portfolio), how easy is it to swap between them to post to the "right" one?
Thank you! #advicewanted
Thanks to getting back into photography and seeing how much fun @foolisholivia seems to be having with it, I made a #pixelfed account for my #photography.
If interested give me a follow over there, but I plan to boost the pics here too.
i keep saying this but it's frustrating that both posting and consuming image-based content on the fediverse is WAY better on #Mastodon than on #Pixelfed. I really hope the latter, at some point, gets more interest from developers on making a better app for it, which Mastodon has in abundance. There aren't many yet dat seems noteworthy so far, prolly cos people are still waiting for the "official" app to be open source, which it still isn't.
It's a lot of fun to jump back into federation and admin dashboard improvements.
The past week I've been busy with https://beta.fedidb.org, [secret project], and the #pixelfedApp, it feels good to context switch every so often.
I wasn't able to get to Stories and Status Edits this weekend, but I will prioritize them this week along with federated reports and improve anti-spam mitigation!
I am contemplating the idea of starting a #pixelfed instance. I thought if it in the past, but it seemed so cumbersome that I gave up. Mastodon felt easier and since I started to use containers (k8s), it is even better - a breeze to upgrade.
Has things change? Has Pixelfed became easier to deploy and admin?
@mitexleo I got a bit disappointed with Pixelfed, for now. Not so much help on Discord (almost nobody answers, and it takes time to get an answer, which makes me worried in case of an emergency), deploying on docker/k8s doesn't work well, etc.
In the beginning of 2010 I was registered to over 150 social media sites. The rise of the social media were exciting times. There were rarely any algorithms, no TikTok, no Instagram for Android, no ads on Twitter.
However, over the years everything went to shit. The social media sites died one by one and couple of the dominating players slowly shifted to platforms where your data was no longer yours, where you were the money machine. The sad thing is, most of the people didn't even notice this change.
