For those just now being introduced for the first time to the power of bias in the media in the run-up to #ge2024 may I introduce you to this - a documentary about BBC bias during the 2014 independence referendum campaign. This is not new, you've just been unaware or ignoring it because you didn't think it affected you. #Scotland#IndependenceIsNormal#BBCbias https://youtu.be/TXQYuLUAbyw
There's a certain schadenfreude in witnessing the rending of shirts and blowing of fuses at the clear and obvious bias by the BBC in its #ge2024 coverage. Takes me right back to their coverage of #indyref in 2014. How do you like them apples? #Scotland#IndependenceIsNormal
Re analysis, votes at Westminster will demonstrate the extent of the democratic deficit. The farce of the debate around the #UKInternalMarketAct in 2018 is an excellent starting point.
"In a system without proportional representation, politics is indeed often the choice of the lesser of two evils. But as the space between the two [parties] shrinks, people might begin to feel that – as Ralph Nader once said – “if you always vote for the lesser of two evils, you will always have evil, and you will always have less”."
That pinpoints the rot at the heart of Westminster politics.
Fortunately we can reject both parties in #Scotland.
The Labour Party, selecting General Election candidates, should be wary of ignoring the voters of 2019 - 10,295,912 who voted Labour, “for the many, not the few.” The House of Commons arithmetic disguises the fact that more people voted against Conservatives than for them. If the party does not welcome Corbyn or Abbott, how much of a home will it be for the voters it needs? Please don’t throw out the baby with the bath water, the UK needs change! #ukpolitics#labour#KierStarmer#DianeAbbott
Whether or not you support independence for Scotland, you must surely support the principle of democratic choice. In which case every person in Scotland meeting a prospective MP or their campaigners from whichever party must ask them these three simple questions.
Since 2014 the UK government has overruled Scottish Parliament decisions on devolved matters more than ten times. Some partnership. Some equality. #IndependenceIsNormal#Scotland
Two MPs who represent English constituencies will go head-to-head in ITV's 'UK' GE24 debate.
No-one representing Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland is allowed to take part.
There's that 'equal union' for you. #IndependenceIsNormal#Scotland#ge2024
Is there another nation in the world where three of the main
parties are registered and funded from another country? #Scotland#IndependenceIsNormal#ge2024
The problem with Labour winning the UK general election in five weeks time is that it means another 5 years of conservative government. #IndependenceIsNormal#ge2024#Scotland
If you want just one good reason why not to vote either Tory, Labour or LibDem in Scotland, this is it - they all oppose rejoining the EU whilst more than 69% of Scots recognise the astonishing economic and cultural damage that Brexit has done and want to rejoin. #ge2024#Scotland#IndependenceIsNormal
Scotland. Your reminder that Labour wants to dismantle devolution just as much as the Tories do, and their aim is to systematically reduce devolved powers and then ultimately close Holyrood. We've been warned. If we vote Labour then what follows is our own fault. #ge2024#IndependenceIsNormal#Scotland
@ferryoons Precisely. Streeting very clear about this being 'Britain's NHS' which means devolved nations cuts and privatisation too. Scots voting Labour are turkeys voting for Christmas. #ge2024#Scotland#IndependenceIsNormal
In the same week that Scotland's latest census data indicated that 66% of our population identifies exclusively as Scottish and only 14% as exclusively British, #Captain_UTurn launches the UK Labour campaign festooned in union flags.
Will the "patriotic" union flag shagging be a feature of "Labour" campaigning in #Scotland?
Next time you see a Guardian headline about "Britons", remember this!
"Most people in Scotland say their only national identity is Scottish – with the number of people describing themselves as Scottish and British plummeting.
"[Scottish] Census data... show that 65.5% of the population had Scottish as their only identity – an increase from 62.4% in 2011."
Voters in Scotland remember this: for Tories and Labour England is the priority and will always come first. Scotland will only ever - ever - get what it needs or wants if it happens to coincide with what England wants. Use your vote wisely. #IndependenceIsNormal#UKGeneralElection#ukge2024#scotpol#Scotland
