Aphobia is bigotry against #asexual (#ace) or #aromantic (#aro) people (sometimes agender, too). And in the following posts I will do a little explainer.
(I won't talk about agender, because I'm not agender.)
It's fine to not be that into #sex or #romance. It's fine to not feel sexually or romantic attracted to anyone. It's fine if you do have sex, but only rarely.
Sex and romance are deeply personal things, so don't let society put you down.
But aphobia says the opposite. Aphobia says that it is NOT okay, thus forcing everyone into sex and romance, even if it doesn't work.

#Aphobia may come even from the #LGBTQ+ community: There's this idea that #asexual and #aromantic people do not belong to the LGBTQ+. A common excuse is we're not "oppressed enough". 🤡
Here's the thing: ALL #aces and #aros violate #heteronormativity. No matter how you twist and turn it, it's impossible to be ace/aro AND fully comply with heteronormativity.
Excluding people who violate heteronormtivity is patently absurd.

Und weil meine Frau und ich als gleichgeschlechtliches Ehepaar mittlerweile von mehreren Personen in unserem Dorf teils offen beleidigt und bedroht werden, habe ich heute zwei Überwachungskameras am Haus installiert. Passend zum #IDAHOBIT, dem heutigen internationalen Tag gegen Homo-, Bi-, Inter- und Transfeindlichkeit.
Und ja, das ist enorm belastend, und ja, Queerfeindlichkeit nimmt deutlich spürbar zu.
Z okazji Międzynarodowego Dnia Przeciw Homofobii, Transfobii i Bifobii chciałabym podzielić się czymś, co po części jest moim osobistym sukcesem, ale też po części może w jakiś sposób rezonować z osobami, które niestety miały kontakt z wymienionymi wyżej fobiami. Mianowicie chciałabym polecić powieść 🌈Imogen, oczywiście🌈, którą miałam przyjemność tłumaczyć dla Wydawnictwa SeeYa (imprintu Czarnej Owcy).
Chyba nie muszę tłumaczyć, czemu jest to sukces osobisty ;) Tłumaczyć powieści chciałam, od kiedy tylko zaczęłam mieć jakiekolwiek ambicje zawodowe – miło jest mieć możliwość odhaczyć takie marzenie z listy! W recenzjach nikt nie narzeka za bardzo na tłumaczenie, więc mogę chyba bezpiecznie założyć, że wyszło dobrze. Niektórzy wręcz chwalą styl autorki/styl powieści, a mam takie (niezbyt może skromne) poczucie, że trochę jest w tym też mojej zasługi.
A co do tej drugiej części wstępu...
Nie będzie zbytnim spoilerem, jeśli powiem, że książka opisuje queerowe przebudzenie głównej bohaterki. Imogen musi się przy tym zmierzyć z wieloma przeszkodami – od własnej głowy, która aż za bardzo analizuje każdą interakcję i każdą napotkaną opinię, poprzez zawirowania wynikające z fabuły, aż do queerfobii. Przy czym

jest to queerfobia w dość niecodziennym wydaniu, uskutecznia ją bowiem a) osoba tęczowa, b) bliska Imogen, c) bardzo biegła we wszelkiego rodzaju „dyskursach” LGBTQ+.

Ale też w tle przewijają się ślady takiej – jak to źle zabrzmi – zwykłej, heteronormatywnej queerfobii, kryjącej się za hasłami w rodzaju "oliwię swoją strzelbę łzami liberałów". I wbrew pozorom, ta "zwykła" pogarda i nienawiść też ma na całą powieść wpływ – widzimy jasno, skąd się biorą zinternalizowane przez niektóre postaci mechanizmy obronne i stereotypy. Nic przecież nie dzieje się w próżni.

Pomimo dość nieprzyjemnych uczuć, jakie wywołuje poruszanie tematyki wszystkich tęczofobii, 🌈Imogen, oczywiście🌈 głównie jednak przynosi komfort. Wprawdzie już od dawna nie mieszczę się w kategorii Young Adult, ale i tak odczuwałam dużą przyjemność z przenoszenia się do świata Imogen. Wszystkie fragmenty powiązane z życiem uniwersyteckim – duża część akcji dzieje się w uczelni Blackwell – wzbudzały we mnie rozkoszne uczucie nostalgii, a przypuszczam, że dla młodszych osób mogą stanowić model do aspiracji. Dodatkowo większość postaci jest bardzo sympatyczna, a samą Imogen po prostu ma się ochotę przytulić i powiedzieć, że będzie dobrze. Bo przynajmniej w powieści będzie dobrze! A to daje nadzieję, że może w prawdziwym świecie też nie każda queerowa historia musi się kończyć dramatycznie i łzawo. Czasem taka nadzieja się bardzo przydaje.
W oczywisty sposób nie mogę nazwać moich przemyśleń obiektywną recenzją. Nie wiem też, czy wypada mi was zachęcać do kupowania i czytania, skoro mam w tym osobisty interes. Trochę jednak zachęcam. Zwłaszcza jeśli co jakiś czas myślicie „o, w sumie nie wiem, czy jestem hetero, czy nie, help” albo „ej, ktoś bardzo chce mnie wepchnąć w etykietkę, z którą nie jest mi do końca komfortowo”. Ta książka powstała właśnie dla osób w takich sytuacjach. A nawet jeśli ktoś nie ma takich wątpliwości, kto wie, co 🌈Imogen, oczywiście🌈 może w nim/niej obudzić… Przynajmniej, ekhm, tak słyszałam od koleżanki.
