📽️ What's a horror movie that you feel is so: striking, unique, disturbing, profound, &/or beautiful that it transcends to the level of ART?
(Not for just a scene, or moments, or even a performance, but for the ENTIRE film.)
Four that immediately occurred to me:
The Shining
The Devils
The Wolf House
There Will Be Blood
I can think of more but I'm curious what YOU all think...
I have to go eat & do stuff but I'll be back on later to see what you all said!
Stole this image from someone who stole this image, and I'm stealing the question, too:
WHAT FILM MADE YOU GO 'WTF DID I JUST WATCH'?
Off the top of my head:
Mother! definitely. Also Society, The Outwaters, Final Prayer (aka The Borderlands), Dead Alive (aka Brain Dead), Skinamarink, The Human Centipede, Infinity Pool, Antichrist, Hausu, Secretary. And I love them all.
I'm calling it quits on my Halloween Countdown as I've not made enough new horror art for it this year, and cos of nerve pain, I'm trying to minimise time on my computer and clay desk atm. Urgh. Maybe next year! 😬
Anyways, here's a throwback to a few of my horror/dark genre movie posters 🖤
THE EVIL DEAD is probably one of my absolute favorites. While I do give the edge to 2, it’s only because I enjoy the humor. This movie was a landmark in horror. It was a cutting edge film for 83 that still looks great today. The film feels just as unhinged and chaotic as the first time I watched it.
GREMLINS 3 (2024)
The origins of the Mogwai have been as secret as their existence itself. 1 in 100,000 are born the way they were intended to be. Gizmo is one of them. But there are others.. and they are looking for him. The rest become the terrible creatures we know as Gremlins. But what happens when a force more evil then the Gremlins themselves comes to our world ? ..And Gizmo needs to eat after midnight...
My #DiabolikDVD order came in today!
So happy- I got all of these at GREAT prices during their Clearance sale and I had none of them on Blu-ray. It's going to be whole new experiences watching them! 😍
Hit me with some good horror, old or new, which is scary and not focused on overly much torture porn or nihilistic "humans are the real monsters" shit.
This is the only month I get to play Horror movies in the house.
Preference given to movies that in some way aspire to artistic value; original Suspiria, for instance, and The Abominable Dr Phibes, both gorgeous visual films.
This is absolutely the weirdest movie I have ever seen. and believe me that is weird AF! This is neither a recommendation nor to warn you away. Just a statement of fact. This was so weird! Infinity Pool starring Alexander Skarsgård and Mia Goth is available on Hulu #horrorfam#horrormovies#weirdmovies#huluween@horror
Hmmm ... it's Wednesday the 13th, wasn't there a movie about Wednesday the 13th with Freddy Scissor fingers or something like that. I'm just kidding, I'm purposely messing up the titles and characters. I'm a fan of horror movies, though I don't like the movies that feed off of gore. Good ghost stories, vampires, exorcist, or an occasional zombie is okay. There are hundreds of horror movies available for streaming, but most aren't even 'B" movies.
“You know why horror-movie characters always get killed? Because they've never seen horror movies. They don't know how it works. Right? But we do. So, no one go into the basement alone. No one go screaming off into the woods alone. No one has any sex.” - Carrie Vaughn, Kitty's House of Horrors
