Geez #Divi and #Gutenberg mixed together is a fucking hell to work with. I almost wish I didn't take this guys money so I can scratch my eyes out in my own time as that is more fun than working with whatever bullshit Divi provides for a page editor. #wordpress#php#work
has anyone made a custom dynamic block that uses ACF and block variations? is it possible? #wordPress #Gutenberg .. I'm looking for examples as I'd like to do one myself
This allows, among other things, to create a WordPress theme from any existing one. The WordPress block editor and site editor (Gutenberg) make that task very easy.
Brian Gardner recently published a tutorial to create a basic theme based on Frost. Frost is the block theme that is active on blogpocket.com, with which we have designed a front-end brutal and with which we have managed to make the home page cleaner than 95% of the web pages tested on websitecarbon.com. Only 0.05g of CO2 is produced each time someone visits it. If the page received about 10,000 visits a month for a year, it would emit the same amount of carbon that a tree absorbs in that year.
Additionally, Frost comes with a complete set of minimalist block patterns in order to help you easily design your website templates and pages.
Well, let’s choose Frost to start and then I’ll give you the keys to creating a basic block theme. But first, I will remind you what it is and why it would be important to know how to create a basic theme.
A basic theme (also called “starter”) is a theme that includes minimal features, which gives the possibility of customization to the user’s liking. If we are talking about an agency, basic themes allow us to adapt to the needs of clients, saving time and effort when developing the website.
A very simple basic theme based on Frost would be, for example, composed of a blank home page but – thanks to the GPL license – the theme would be authored, within the code, by the agency or person who modified it and not from WP Engine -which is the author of Frost-, in this case.
How to create a basic theme based on Frost
For the manual creation of a basic theme, based on Frost, I refer you to Brian Gardner’s article mentioned above. However, it is very simple because you just have to enter style.css, function.php and all the files inside the /patterns folder, changing the reference to the theme name; that is, replacing “frost” with “my-theme” (with “my-theme” being the name given to the new theme).
With the plugin Create Block Theme You can also do it, saving you manual changes. Simply customize the theme and then choose the “Clone Frost” option, filling out the form values (theme name, author, etc.). This plugin has a cherry on top, which is the possibility of changing the font to a Google font, hosting the corresponding files locally. This way, your new basic theme will have a font that you like and you will comply with the GDPR. The GDPR requires that Google Fonts be uploaded locally.
Frost has implemented a basic theme generator. This generator will take the latest Frost source code and replace all instances of the words, and other theme information to get a new started theme ready to use.
Migrating from a site to Wordpress. We have custom importers working very nicely, but, we are really struggling to fully understand the new Gutenberg blocks. It appears that NASA in their new website had a similar lack of docs.
My question to all Mastodonians… where is some really good current up-to-date docs/tutorials on understanding and using the power of the Gutenberg blocks?
So is anyone else using #WordPress and #Gutenberg (the block editor) for long-form blogs?
Is anyone else experiencing the editing grinding to a close halt when typing more than a few paragraphs in a session?
I want to know if it's something with my setup or not — I can experience it with Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android. Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
The only system I have not tried on for lack of one is macOS and I kind of expect that it is possible it's the only one with no problems.
