One more from the heap of raw ideas and unfinished projects: This one from almost precisely 2 years ago, going under the working title "Computational Lace", but really a kind of fractal process based on an initial 2D SDF, creating a surprising amount of complexity from even the simplest seed shapes...
This is again one of these projects requiring a full size view to appreciate the fine structures emerging...
Two more outputs from my flow field system. Trying to judge by eye what makes a good composition from the random outputs and then restricting the system to make those combinations more likely.
I added a cool one to the #opticalillusion collection this week. I figured out a way to replicate @ronikaufman's recent Truchet spiral images (https://openprocessing.org/sketch/1978420) using relatively simple nested loops of circles. This allows it to be scaled up to high resolution without issues. I got his permission to add it, and also incorporated many variations, including several new ones, that can be uncovered through interaction.
1/7 In Mappings by Ira Greenberg, the concept of maps serves as our guide through unknown territory. Maps are the work of nameless pioneers who came before us, and they represent orientation and, to a degree, a feeling of familiarity in unfamiliar surroundings.
Currently very much still like dried glue (esp. at this resolution), but the overall idea was: Be like water, my friend... Next stop GLSL or maybe even WGSL!
With less than a month to go, I’m trying to get back into the swing of things for my #PenPlotter exhibit at #VCFEast in April.
I think my Roland DPX-2000 will make an appearance this year. I was able to source 17x22 paper (not cheap but the quality is 😏) so here’s the beginning of some Truchet tiles.
A pair of my favorite jeans developed a hole in the knee. This led to me to learning about #Sashiko, a beautiful art of visible mending. This inspired me to create this plotter design.

Spent part of today working on a new project. Already seeing some promising outcomes from the core algorithm/idea. Looking forward to exploring this more next week. 🤞🏻
Edit: also just lemme know if you want to help moderate! I have little experience managing a community and am not the best person for the job, I just wanted somewhere to post full-size genart gifs
