Got my OpenGLide test app running on target hardware!
Turns out I was able to revert several texture-related things because the VC4 driver supports way more GL extensions than I thought it did... 😅
This is an absolute monster of a release, probably our biggest so far!
Highlights
-Authentic adaptive CRT emulation
-Accurate VGA emulation
-3dfx Voodoo emulation
-New integer scaling modes
-Aspect ratio correct image captures
-Supercharged image and video capturing
-Aspect ratio and viewport enhancements
-IBM Music Feature Card support
And many, many, many more...
Well, #3dfx#voodoo emulation works, but there is a VERY strange effect when compared to DOSBox-X:
The image seems to be upside down! See the text in the screenshots with the red/white cube...
I might have found yet another project I wanna work on.
IMHO it is doable and would involve porting a well known game to #MSDOS with #OpenGL#3dfx#Voodoo support.
I have no idea where I can find the time and energy to do it, but it just went on my list...
So very tired of modern “#PixelArt” #VideoGames. Most of the time it’s stolen valor by devs who weren’t even born when #3dfx was still riding high with its Voodoo Graphics #GPU cards, in hopes that players will overlook the derivative gameplay because they get a #RetroGaming frisson from the visuals.
I paid for all the dots in this “Retina display.” Use them.
I usually try to release a new version of #DOjS every three month (or so).
V1.10 was released in February and v1.11 is brewing for some time now (previews of it are used in #DOStodon ). But I think the next release will be delayed ´till autumn.
Beside small changes I can’t see myself sitting inside in my office and hack away on it. The weather is to nice for that and we have things to do…
Another #3dfx Voodoo 3 card saved! Was right about it being a vBIOS issue but not the fault I expected! Small solder patch on the broken trace did the trick. Always such a great feeling to see it working for the first time 😁👍
And the simultaneously "cool" and "ytho" category...getting a 3Dfx Voodoo 2 card running on a modern 64-bit machine running modern 64-bit Windows 10. From what I can tell it ran all the Glide (their 3D framework like OpenGL) demos and Quake perfectly. Quake in the Steam store still ships with the Voodoo cards as an option too :). Well done James! #RetroComputing#Windows#3Dfx#Quake#Steam 3Dfx Voodoo 2 on a Modern PC!
