I just made a giant batch of chilli purely to use all the tins of beans, and fridge veggies... but I had no Kidney Beans just Cannellini Beans, so is it even a chilli any more?
@andycarolan I'd argue it depends on the spices used and flavours you got. Hot, warm, umami, chilli, cumin, paprika etc.? Chilli.
Fresh, sharp or soft, herbs, lemon, etc. ? Salad.
@andycarolan Still chili! When I was still an omnivore, I did make a chili recipe with chicken and cannellini beans. I think it also used poblano chile peppers. So the point is that it’s fine to use whatever beans you have!
@andycarolan Yeah I need to make them myself. Weirdly there's a shop near me that sells the exact beans they produce there so my wife picked up a pack 😁
@andycarolan@Jbasoo So here in the U.S., a controversial chili is “Cincinnati Style” chili. Some people hate it. Others love it. (I love it). The point? The folks who came up with the basic recipe were Macedonian immigrants to Cincinnati. It’s very different from this — very meat-based — but Macedonia comes up in chili conversations more often than you’d think.
