ju_and_the_cats,

I'm considering taking a break from here.

Mostly because I was thinking about moving to a different instance but... where?
I mean I like it here, but I have this nagging feeling that is time to move.

(Also the one instance where I could theoretically fit in, I had a fight with the admin months ago. I muted him. Not going to speak with that person again.)

I have so many random things I'm interested in...

Maybe different accounts on different instances?

Idk I'm feeling restless.😮‍💨

@ju_and_the_cats I'm going to stick to this instance until self hosting with an agnostic server becomes viable (unless the instance goes down, obviously). I have some curiosity to try out Fediverse platform that are more flexible in terms of content (Mastodon mangles a bit too much for my tastes), but not enough to resettle.

    @ju_and_the_cats I could bet you were talking about this instance 8-) I've had my own contrast with our admin, but I think despite it this is well-managed (compare and contrast: Mercatone).
    Things I would try are Friendica (one of the most mature platforms), CalcKey (fancy, but a bit experimental and probably not as reliable as others, from what I'm seeing) and HubZilla (combines multiple services, and supports an actual nomadic identity protocol).

    kainoa,

    @oblomov @ju_and_the_cats the only reliability problems were with the flagship instance, which was a deployment issue, not a software issue. Calckey also has full nomadic identity

    @kainoa @ju_and_the_cats thanks for chiming in! And sorry for the comment, it wasn't intended to be disparaging. Good to know that it's deployment issues and not code-related. I assume the bed to rapidly scale is what causes the issues then?
    Re: nomadic identity, are you referring to the possibility to import posts when migration, or something more complete like what is offered by Zot/6 or the Nomad protocol? Does CK support something like the copyTo extension introduced in Streams?

    kainoa,

    @oblomov @ju_and_the_cats We don't support copyTo yet, but we support post imports and social graph migrations, so I suppose it's not FULL nomadic identity yet. I haven't looked into that extension yet... 👀

    And no worries about the tone, I didn't think it sounded disparaging. Just wanted to clear things up :)

    Though i don’t particularly like the software 😉, nor is particularly well federated, i find very interesting the lemmy explosion. It’s less, how do i say, ideological, people simply took it and started using it for the very thing they wanted to do. Even to the extreme of putting out a million of single user useless server because they didnt got exactly the way it work but they had this urge to talk.

    @luca @ju_and_the_cats I gave both kbin and Lemmy a cursory look without logging in, and honestly I prefer kbin, both aesthetically and functionality-wise (regardless of the diatribe about the Lemmy developers), especially if one is looking for something more “personal” than a link aggregator.

    @luca @ju_and_the_cats
    I will also propose a patch to both kbin and Lemmy to add the missing AP-advertising links

    @ju_and_the_cats @luca
    Kbin also features a personal blog in addition to the groups/communities/magazines corresponding to the subreddits

    luca,

    @ju_and_the_cats @oblomov

    yes, they are, well, kbin try to cover a bigger range of use cases but for those i’m perfectly fine with mastodon/pleroma

    In any way i can post a message from my standard instance, say about a book, and send it also at the @ address of a book forum.

    It’s expanding the audience to people who don’t care about following me but they are interested in books

    Eventually you will know and reach people on the fediverse who share an interest with you, that’s what we try to achieve with niche instances too

    luca,

    @ju_and_the_cats @oblomov the relevant thing i found in this #Threads thing is that they didn’t open IG.

    That would have been putting something at risk

    @luca @ju_and_the_cats off topic, but I really have an urge to fix this damn hashtag bug in *oma platforms
