you know what i haven't seen on fedi that actually makes me a bit sad

puppygirlhornypost,
@puppygirlhornypost@transfem.social avatar

there's all of these posts focused on the trans experience which is great. I'm not upset about that at all, I think it's good. I feel like a lot of this space is scattered with various intersex people who just don't talk about it. That saddens me because I wish there was more widespread awareness on intersex issues that wasn't just using them as examples

expanded cw: genital mutilation

so I remember this post on tumblr, it left an impression on me. It talked about how a lot of people neglect to realize that things such as the omegaverse (I am not discussing that, I will say its name and you can go look that up) is actually really discriminatory towards intersex people and fetishizes them in much the same way that we are fetishized by so called "chasers". There's also the fact that a common talking point in trans politics (from people who are not intersex) is that they bring up SRS on children. The argument is regarding intersex people experiencing doctors forcing them into a binary gender by cutting off their bits and assigning a gender. This is a real issue, bringing it up is not bad but I remember this specific intersex person just wanted to feel included. Not just a short mention of that in regards to why people may be trans but an actual discussion regarding that practice and shunning it.

I often speak for people who do not have voices. I (was) for a time an ally to people on the asex and aro spectrum before I realized I probably fall on there somewhere. Intersex is not just another identity label but can cause a lot of dysfunction in people's bodies. I know a lot of cool intersex people who I won't be naming because I don't know if they want me to share. I want to see more intersex people talking about things like this and feeling as though they are part of the community. I find that they often are in the typical GNC communities. I really do want to show support for our intersex friends. It's a problem that I don't even know where to find them. I want them to feel like they can discuss their issues, talk about how things like the omegaverse make them feel fetishized.

@puppygirlhornypost oh, thank you for making these posts :neocat_pleading: im intersex and i hate “omegaverse”-type stuff for exact reasons you stated, the fetishization is sickening. but i never see anyone else point this out or agree, so i dont talk about it & other stuff that bothers me because i dont want to start arguments :blobcatgooglyholdingitsheadinitshands: its really anxiety-inducing.

so i appreciate you being so encouraging & amplifying our voices. :bunhdheart:

@hope y'all need someone to stand up for you. it makes it easier to speak out when you know you have people backing you. that's what this entire thread started as because I want to raise awareness.

SleepyCat,
@SleepyCat@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@puppygirlhornypost Statistically there must also be a fair number of intersex people here who don't even know they're intersex. In my generation the standard advice to parents was not to tell the children. Some will have disregarded that but I suspect most have never told them.

fallenvalkyrie,

@SleepyCat @puppygirlhornypost Not to mention that there is no real way to know other than get testing...

So even if the doctors didn't know at birth, you could still be intersex without knowing.

SleepyCat,
@SleepyCat@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@fallenvalkyrie @puppygirlhornypost It would depend a lot on what type of intersex you are. Sometimes it's obvious at birth, sometimes it only become noticeable at puberty and sometimes it would never be visually apparent. As often happens, a single word can mask a variety of experiences. If you've had surgery shortly after birth you wouldn't know unless your parents told you, or it went horribly wrong, and I do unfortunately know someone in that category. If there was never anything visually apparent you might not know either. If your testes decided to wait to put in an appearance until puberty it would be hard not to notice, but you'd probably be pretty freaked out since I think few people would be aware that can happen.

puppygirlhornypost,
@puppygirlhornypost@transfem.social avatar

@SleepyCat @fallenvalkyrie this is part of the discussion, because a lot of people did not know about being trans before the trans movement started picking up and having a louder and louder voice. I want more discussion regarding things like this. There's things like internal testes that can cause major disruption to your body. There's a lot of different variations of being intersex. I didn't figure out my alignment on the aromantic spectrum until I talked to people who were demiromantic and went "wow that sounds a lot like how I am". Intersex people are not hermaphrodites, they come in all shapes sizes flavors much like how genders and sexuality do. some of that confusion still has not been cleared up though, and there doesn't seem to be a widespread movement to try to educate people since there's not as big of a collective to do so. I mean yeah I assume there's intersex support groups, resources etc but I don't see it widely discussed. I've only seen a few people mention it on tumblr.

@SleepyCat @fallenvalkyrie Part of not telling the child was this forced feeling of being assigned a sex. I know this because that particular person lived life as a boy, no breast development etc until they started hrt. They're one of the first "transfem enbies" I ever met, and they have a lot of interesting things about them but unfortunately are not on fedi to talk to us about it

puppygirlhornypost,
@puppygirlhornypost@transfem.social avatar

@SleepyCat @fallenvalkyrie I want to hear more people talk about things like that, and so I am thankful that you are talking in this thread Sleepycat.

@puppygirlhornypost perisex trans people (especially nonbinary people) owe intersex people so much more solidarity than most of us give them. They're not just a pawn for arguments of our validity, and I really hope that I come across as someone safe to have community with. I think a lot of the time we can trust that intersex people are probably not transphobic like we can with other trans people, and I wish that also worked vice versa but from what I've seen it really doesn't

puppygirlhornypost,
@puppygirlhornypost@transfem.social avatar

@raphaelmorgan yeah i want to change that any way i can as someone who helps run general lgtbq+ instances.

@puppygirlhornypost agreed - would absolutely love to see intersex siblings talk about things important to them and feel they had a space where they can talk with those that center them in the conversation. I know it's not necessarily so simple, but i hope we can cultivate a space where intersex folk can also talk about their lives the way us trans folks get to here
