@IndyRichard Promoting/improving public transport has to be part of the picture - possibly right from the start. The village where we live is lucky in that it has a good local shop (though small) and a local GP surgery, but the nearest town is 17-18 miles away. There are still busses but they only run four times a day (six times on schooldays, but the extra two leave/arrive at around the same time) so using the bus means you’re out all morning or all afternoon before you can get back.
