Big Journalism's timidity is never more obvious than when, confronted with a blatant lie from a (usually Republican) politician, the news org then frames the lie as a mere mistake.
Example today from ABC News -- headline:
"South Dakota Gov. Noem admits error of describing meeting Kim Jong Un in new book"
Come on, journalists, this just makes you look ridiculous.
@dangillmor Reminder: the MAGA base likes it when their politicians lie. It’s another way to “own the libs” and show they aren’t afraid of lying to sell their “toughness “. It’s part of the narcissistic neurosis that is essential for any right wing leader these days. Journalists need to stop giving them top coverage for obvious lies. Even when they catch them lying. It just gives them one more news cycle. Lies count more against politicians in local elections.
@dangillmor It was clearly just a typo. Her finger slipped and somehow hit the keys to produce "I remember when I met with the North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. I’m sure he underestimated me, having no clue about my experience staring down little tyrants (I’d been a children’s pastor after all)."
