I was scrolling through my Facebook looking for an old pic. I never use it anymore, but I’d forgotten how much I used to post there. Lots of pics, updates about stuff I was doing, G-rated shitposts, because you can only be so risqué when your grandmother follows you.
I should download it all for me and then nuke the account bulb…maybe just keep a shell there because some family might need it to contact me
In some ways mastodon is a lot like old school Facebook. You had a fairly small social graph with hundred(s) of people and you’d post stuff and get a handful of likes.
Get married or have a kid…boom 50 likes! 150 likes! Of course Facebook evolved into a content mill and Twitter and Insta increased the scale….go viral and get 100,000 likes, a million!
Anyways, I was amused to see my FB use was similar to my masto use, but now for its for internet weirdos instead of family. 🤓
@FlockOfCats I'm pretty much the same. I still have Facebook to keep in touch with family and less nerdy friends, but I can only scroll the feed for so long because every second post is some shit I didn't ask for (ads, reels or "suggested content"). That last one in particular irritates me to the point where I just close the app if I start seeing it.
I spend far more time on Mastodon, because as you said, it's like old school FB or Twitter. Actual content from actual people.
