Want to book a Interrail seat reservation for a TGV, TGV Lyria or Eurostar?

Don't bother using anything other than Rail Europe any more. Don't mess with ticket machines. Avoid extra booking fees. Just use Rail Europe. That's it.

Explained in my updated Interrail Tips & Tricks post:
https://jonworth.eu/interrail-tips-and-tricks/

reinhard_hampel,

@jon not so good they can't take my french reduction card into account. Not that European after all. Needs some more effort (may well be SNCF blocking once again)

@reinhard_hampel I’m only talking about Interrail reservations here. You don’t get reductions on those anywhere with a Carte Avantage.

@jon Notice for Rail Europe: The “add rail pass” option does not show up on their mobile website. Using “request desktop website” works though. (tested on Safari on iOS)

@jon Regarding the Interrail app: I noticed it forgot my trips and passes almost only when a train conductor was in front of me. 😂

My theory is I’ve been tapping too fast to load something in the background. Breathing in and out between every tap during ticket inspections has made it much more reliable.

Also, I first go to trips and wait until the circle of the active trip turns blue (trips loaded successfully?), then I move on to pass view.

Screenshot interrail planner app, trip section. Current trip icon has a dark blue background. An arrow is pointing at it.

@deanerschnitzel Yes, and it is worse if you have a X days in Y months pass than a continuous pass.

@jon @deanerschnitzel Do you have any idea whether this is under investigation as a bug by the app team?

@patrick @deanerschnitzel They know (I was at Interrail HQ the day after I saw you, Patrick!) but I don't know why the problem persists.

@jon

So, the best case for me to travel from the Netherlands to Barcelona is €220 to €250, one way ticket.

That’s my two-way ticket by plane.

This should be the other way around, at the very least.

@collectifission I think you're missing the point of that post - which is about Interrail (so minimum 4 travel days), not simply intended for return journeys.

There is a genuine cost problem from Netherlands southbound, but I explain that one here: https://jonworth.eu/make-international-rail-cheaper-capacity-on-a-route-is-the-crucial-issue/

pandem,

@jon Very confusing on mobile though as at least on my phone there is no way to add interrail

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@pandem Thanks, will add to the blog post.

@jon Could it be that Interrail fixes some of the problems of getting to the Eurostar (e.g. missed connection) and its price then? What's the order of magnitude of prices for the reservations here?

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@phil Interrail hasn’t really fixed these issues. RailEurope has just built a reservation front end.
