At first I thought it was just ignorance on the part of the Commissioner. But now that the Commissioner keeps repeating untruths when it has been pointed out several times by various experts and scientists, I am starting to think she is doing it on purpose.
The Eurocommissioner keeps repeating that the vast majority of the European population is in favour of scanning all private messages, photos, videos and conversations, of all European citizens, 24/7. That is sheer nonsense, see this blog by Dr Vera Wilde: https://wildetruth.substack.com/p/misinformation-campaign-promotes
I don't even know where else to start. Let's take a look at this misleading picture the Eurocommissioner keeps posting on X/Twitter. It states that only "confirmed reports" are reported to the police. Has she actually read her own proposed legislation?
The check that takes place is whether a report is "not manifestly unfounded". So, pictures of cats and dogs are not forwarded to Europol. But anything else is must be forwarded to Europol and the local police without any check. It is misleading to call this a "confirmed" report.
The Commissioner claims to have crafted her proposal "with open eyes and ears". Certainly her eyes and ears were open to Thorn and other commercial organisations, but she shuns people who just point out the EU Charter to her, like all top experts at yesterday's @EDPS meeting.
There was a broad and almost unprecedented consensus that yesterday's seminar has shown - a consensus between different groups of stakeholders - that the CSAM proposal is not only ineffective, but also harmful, dixit @EDPS_supervisor closing the #EDPS#Seminar on #CSAM Proposal
Sadly, the Commissioner's open eyes and ears couldn't see/hear that: she was busy writing her blog and did not accept the invitation, while it was one of the most interesting meetings I've ever seen.
