alpinefolk,

I have a friend who has been a dairy farmer most of his life and now has vineyards. His farm truck is an old Subaru outback and has been for years.

Don’t tell me farmers need a Ute.

@alpinefolk I guess it depends on the local terrain, and how worried you are about throwing, say, a dead sheep in the back...

alpinefolk,

@vik not really. In my experience anytime you’re doing anything like that you are using a quad bike or the tractor.

@alpinefolk Not owning either, I wouldn't know for sure. But having driven both, I can't say either would do well on my patch and have no difficulty imagining other situations. In short, it really does matter what you're doing and where exactly you're doing it.

alpinefolk,

@vik fair enough, I don’t know your land. In my experience dairy farming and strawberry farming we did have a small 2nd flat deck Ute. For strawberries a van would haven been better. For dairy we used the tractor for any rough terrain.

@alpinefolk Nice little ecosystem of olives and sheep at this end.
