Sorcerer (1977)

I've never seen this one but everything I've heard about it makes it out to be incredible.

This is my last film of the weekend. More will come in the week ahead, I'm sure.

Come to think of it, this is basically just High Stakes Death Stranding.

Okay this was great in a "I don't want to see this again" sort of way.

Liquid Sky (1982)

Absolutely no idea what this is besides being the next on the Criterion Channel's Synth Soundtracks list.

After the disappointment of "Out of Sight", to-night, I'm watching "Plane". This is an action thriller starring Gerard Butler, as a pilot whose plane is hit by lighting, and has to make an emergency landing.

The character must've been written for Butler. When speaking to his character's daughter he asks her to prepare "homemade haggis, neeps and tatties".

Then, when asked by the co-pilot if he was English, he replies "Hell no. I wouldn't lower myself to that. I'm Scottish." 😃

Lightning, of course.
It's harder to spot when one's typo is also a word. 😃

#NowWatching Messiah of Evil (1973)

This one isn't terrible but not really a favorite. I suppose the soundtrack is quite synthy after all.

The lighting is sort of interesting in this. Lots of gels. This beachside exterior is Fat Blue right now, with some warmer colors for the mid tones. Sort of reminds me of Argento's Suspiria and/or Inferno.

Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)

Not a fan of this one, but that's okay because Sunday is Chore Day for me, I'll roll this while I do laundry and such. The soundtrack is still pretty good.

The main theme for this one is something I think I've heard riffed on in countless crack screens from old Atari ST disks.

I'm sure I could find an Atari ST midi rendition of this out there with some weird pixel art to go with it and a ribbon of greetz scrolling below.

Michael Mann has a habit of pairing his work with Tangerine Dream's. The soundtrack is so great.

Sony Will Use AI to Cut Film Costs, Says CEO Tony Vinciquerra

"“We are very focused on AI. The biggest problem with making films today is the expense,” Vinciquerra said at Sony’s Thursday (Friday in Japan) investor event. “We will be looking at ways to…produce both films for theaters and television in a more efficient way, using AI primarily.”"

Wow. So I expect the quality will go way down.

@noellemitchell The studio that brought us Madame Web and Morbius thinks cost is the problem with making films.

AI is just the shitty kitchen remodel on the house that really needs to be condemned in the first place.

@noellemitchell hey Tony, maybe we can skip Sony then and use AI to make movies ourselves!

This one looks differently worse than the first one. It looks like they shot it on a low-quality webcam that captured at an odd (low) framerate.

Why do I never get trapped in the trunk of a car with Jennifer Lopez?

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

Out of Sight (1998)

Jennifer Lopez trapped in the boot of a car with George Clooney turned out to be the highlight of the movie. After that scene the humour (it was billed as an action comedy) very much dried up. Too much time spent watching hoodlums driving around in cars.

Clooney and Lopez had some chemistry, but, it wasn't enough to hold my attention.

Disappointing.
