@NatureMC I got a lot of insights from people, but you're the first to see script in it! I definitely saw them as their personal markings, kind of like signatures, but didn't make the leap to script. Thanks!

@enriquericos "script" perhaps isn't the correct word. Often the "engravings" of certain wood-eating beetles remind me of "art rupestre", the stone engravings of stone age cultures. And I think: what if we could "read" what these beetles experienced? These were my spontaneous connotations ...

@NatureMC Script isn't ideal but I think I got what you meant. The original block had its tunnels full of hard compacted wood chewed by the insect. I spent 3-4 weeks clearing that, thinking: now my tool is exactly where that fellow was tunneling, I'm walking its path. I tried to follow its unique journey and felt some kind of connection, of being in its shoes.
Sounds similar enough to what you were thinking?. It's difficult to express these things
