I've been using DuckDuckGo as my main search engine for a while now. Lately, DDG seems to "correct" my searches. A LOT. I don't know if it's just me or if it's a universal thing, but when I type in a search sometimes not only the results aren't what I was looking for, but I see the query itself has been changed to something I didn't actually search for. It's INCREDIBLY frustrating. I just might have to find a new search engine if this keeps up.

@mike To switched from DDG to Startpage a while ago, no complaints so far.

Also no more adult results for banal queries while at work.

Started up a new necro for the new season of Diablo IV (Loot Reborn). Got her up to almost level 20 in just a couple hours (playing Veteran). Been using the Sever build (https://maxroll.gg/d4/build-guides/sever-necromancer-leveling-guide).

Game's always fun as hell for someone who just dabbles around in it like I do.

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@jake4480 did loot change on any significant way? Haven't since launch, and a bit of season 1

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@jake4480 hm, curious, might give it another go whenever I get the game back from a friend I lent it to.

Got a level 90-something Bine Spear Necro sitting in the eternal realm, would be fun to see what drops at that level, if it's even still payable with the old gear I have.

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@jake4480 that's great, couch coop is exactly why I lent it to my colleague, he's got a kid too and they're having a blast 😁

Wanted: personal websites (with curated collections of bookmarks/links to other websites) or link directories that are titled anything starting with the letters "W", "X" or "Z".

Why? To complete the alphabet, of course!
(in terms of the bukmark.club's directory index)

Boosts are much appreciated!

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@shellsharks @robb added slashpages.net to my directory today :)

and considering that other purpose bound directories are listed already, it'd be lovely if you could also link to the bukmark.club now that the "/links or /bookmarks" section was added.

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@robb Much appreciated, thanks!

Here's the URL, just in case: https://bukmark.club

Upset again just now about a cool LEGO based account I had for years on Instagram that they recently nuked for NO REASON.

Never trust Meta, folks!

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@jake4480 I had to develop an interface using the FB API a while ago. Signed up for my first FB account since giving it a try for some weeks in 2010 or so and got my API keys. Everything broke less than 2 weeks later when my 0 friends account got banned.

We set it up with an actual user of an employee of the customer. Worked for 2 years, then her legit account got banned too. Wtf, haha

@jake4480 😱 this is sooo bizarre, haha

@jake4480 Can I go out and kill tonight?!?!

It's just so good, been celebrating a picture disk version (bootleg?) just last night.

But yeah, thanks for the feedback, glad to get a little more personal stuff out there. cheers 🍻

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@jake4480 I randomly found it in Sweden around 2011. I wouldn't have thought to go and look for such a thing otherwise, but those were 10€$ rather well spent.

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@jake4480 yeah, same here pretty much. 98/99 for me - borrowed a friends' minidisk that had some stuff off of American Psycho on it, loved that.

Recent stuff? Would be cool, got to check, but it's not something I had on my radar so far.

@jake4480 I was 20 years younger when I saw them, do not remember the loudness, but no doubt it was loud. I remember Jerry walking through the crowd and to the stage, must've looked like the old testament guys splitting the sea, haha.

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@jake4480 absolutely! And then there was Robo too, which left us teenagers in awe - we could barely use a drumkit, but definitely not with his stiff arms style and pretty much without wrist. What a machine that guy was.

What do you think the Web looks like in a hundred years?

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@ayo probably somewhat like it does in the Cyberpunk universe: all our crap hidden behind the Blackwall, guarded by NetWatch, because we've let AIs run wild and they ruined everything.

Stack Overflow announced that they are partnering with OpenAI, so I tried to delete my highest-rated answers.

Stack Overflow does not let you delete questions that have accepted answers and many upvotes because it would remove knowledge from the community.

So instead I changed my highest-rated answers to a protest message.

Within an hour mods had changed the questions back and suspended my account for 7 days.

Diff view of a stack overflow question showing it being changed from the original text to a protest message, then being changed back again by a mod. Protest text reads: Why does OpenAI get to profit from our work? I have removed this question in protest of Stack Overflow's decision to partner with OpenAI. This move steals the labour of everyone who contributed to Stack Overflow with no way to opt-out. OpenAI has a history of flooding the web with inaccurate information and have explicitly stated that they will never pay creators for their work.

@agersant @ben same here.

I wonder is GPL is any better, published a couple of things under that, but haven't checked in a while.

I added a hidden easter egg page to my website today. I don't think it's too hard to find, view source and some guesswork should do it.

Don't cheat and check today's git commits. Or do, there's nothing I can do to stop you.

Either way, have fun 😊

I swear someone posted a link me to a cool sounding free book the other day. Possibly about engineering management or software development. I'm sure it was written by a woman. And I'm sure it was @chriscoyier who linked it. But can I find? NO, I can not!!!!

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

@ross @chriscoyier did not see the link, but could imagine it might've been this one: https://www.engmanagement.dev

Got Kingdom Come: Deliverance on sale for <5 €$.

Oh boy, what a game 😲

Can't believe I hesitated that long, glad I'm getting to play it now. Better late than never, I guess.

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@ayo yeah 😎

It's a lengthy tutorial, but it opens up nicely after that!

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@ayo yes, absolutely, it's an interesting hybrid. Also, the story is nice so far and the world is really immersive. Feels like a game from 20 years ago, which is a good thing.

Combat, lockpicking and riding the horse is a little wonky at first, but skill levels actually increase how these mechanics handle. That's something I really like; it makes you think about how you'd handle similar situations and how you'd also struggle having grown up with 0 experience doing that.

ttntm,
@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@ayo It was hell getting the first kinda mandatory lockbox open with the 1 lockpick I could afford. But at around level 4 in the skill, it gets manageable - at least for the (very) easy locks, haha 😆

@ttntm@fosstodon.org avatar

@ayo 😂🔥
