@trumpet I'm trying to migrate my account to https://mastodon.social, since I need to be able to follow threads accounts, but I'm getting the error "is not an alias of this account", even though I have added the alias. It this because of version mismatch or some other issue?

HI FOLKS!

We've just upgraded to Mastodon v4.2.9, although not as seamlessly as we'd like!

Our initial upgrade failed and we had to roll back to an earlier version. The Mastodon devs have identified an issue between our config and the upgrade, and have added an important note to their release notes:

We are now upgraded, and everything's back to normal. Thanks for your patience!

I use Express VPN. I just spent a half hour trying to figure out why I couldn't access mas.to. In the end, I switched servers, and it came right up. Just wondering why I was blocked from mas.to on the Chicago server, but not from the rest of mastodon? mas.to@trumpet

Eingebung@mas.to. I am so nervous about it since last time my friend also receive such kind harassment, and the language style are so similar to this one. Then my friend received a threat of exposing her true information, though my friend have change another mastodon service bet it happened again. I am so scared the thing happen on my friend will also happen on me, because is highly possibility they are the thing person or a group to do these harassment. Though I have blocked him but I still hope this account could be addressed by you. Thank you in advance! (Sorry English is not my first language, if my writing have some places are not polite please just let me know!)

@analog_cafe @erik Our servers are in Germany so itโ€™s possibly geolocating our IP address and displaying the German text based on that. I know that preview cards donโ€™t always show images, that depends on the target page.

@wndlb Hello! My immediate answer is that I donโ€™t see any reason why not. If it works with Mastodon, we run the latest release of Mastodon and we run it without mods, so I expect it should.

But just to be sure, give me a minute and Iโ€™ll buy it myself and give it a go.

@wndlb OK, it lets me sign into mas.to just fine and Iโ€™ve just shared a link to mas.to just fine, so Iโ€™d say it seems to work Obviously I canโ€™t make any guarantees about the other functionality of the app, but it signed in and shared just fine with this instance!

@trumpet Having #issues with img cache on modified contents. Modified URL img can not updates when the same @Mastodon post updates. It this an instance param or mastodon itself? Thank you for letting me know.

@iamdtms Hey there, interesting you report this just now as @caryakker reported some issues (that my or may not be related) earlier.

So when you say 'modified contents', is this when you post an image, and then edit the post to include a different image?

We're certainly not aware of any issues but it could be an issue at our media storage/CDN provider.

@iamdtms OK, so if I understand it correctly you've posted a link to an image somewhere, which mas.to has created a preview of. The image has then changed at source, and the preview still shows the old image?

@iamdtms Pretty sure thatโ€™s generic to Mastodon. When a preview card is required a job fetches the target image at the time the post is made. If the target image changes after that I donโ€™t think that would be picked up.

Something wrong with Mastodon or my laptop, or some recent updates? Lots of error messages, can't upload a photo, took forever to load my timeline, not even showing photos. Has been a problem already for a few days.

@EnJ There aren't any moderation measures on your account so you're certainly not 'shadowbanned' on mas.to. Could be something else. Are your posts being sent as unlisted?

@trumpet Hi there, I wonder if you could help me as I think I've found some weird anomaly. For the record, I'm using Moshidon & I've tried Megalodon & the Web site too, with the same result.
When I do a search for Xyla Foxlin (STEM content creator) I find that all the YouTube & youtu.be links don't show any previews to the videos posted, yet when I do a search for anything else with YouTube & youth.be links, all the links shows previews of the videos?
Any ideas what's going on? Thanks โœŒ๏ธ

A THREAD ON THREADS!

Iโ€™m receiving lots of questions about our position on federation with Threads and realised I havenโ€™t posted on this subject for a while.

We have lots of users who do want to federate with Threads, and lots of users who donโ€™t. Itโ€™s my job to find a good solution that works for everyone.

Our position has always been to start from a defensive stance due to our technical and moderation concerns.

So what sort of solution do we think might keep (almost) everyone happy?
