Oh HEY, while I’m drunk at my work Christmas party: why do people not like amnesia as a trope? Speaking generally here, as I do like it, or at least I think I do.

@villainousfriend I can read short fics with amnesia but if it takes longer than a few k words to resolve it gets too angsty for me. I can't take the pain inflicted without even realizing it, and it's even worse if it leads to misunderstandings bc the other person doesn't know about the amnesia. That type of pain seems cheap to me, angst for its own sake. Maybe I haven't seen it done well yet?

#mastodonhelp It seems that searching via the url "username/tagged/hashtag" apparently only finds first posts in a thread, even when searching one's own posts. The regular tag search finds all accessible posts but I don't know if I can filter it for my own posts, or for posts by a specific account in general. Can anyone help?

(I found a way to search for more than one hashtag using decks in the browser version, but that doesn't seem to work for a combination of hashtag and user name.)

@ehyde Wow!! A real fandom elder, that's so cool! I can't imagine how it must have been having so few fics and fellow fans! When I joined in 2020 I was swept up by a very lively community and inundated with fics and meta every day...

"I don't want to debut" (56k) by countingcr0ws is a #WangXian idol competition AU with wwx as unwilling but too popular & capable candidate & lwj as instructor. Jyl, jc and jzx follow wwx with religious fervor, the jc pov has so much shade for jzx!

It's light on the romance but absolutely hilarious, I laughed so much, plus there's lots of wonderful Chinese idioms & youth language (footnotes!). Also it reads very authentic on c-ent, approved language, fan culture...

"We all have a hunger" (23k) by KatAnni is a Cloud Recesses era getting together fic where things go wrong at a night hunt. Wwx is both vulnerable and a genius, lwj gradually realizes how kind and sincere he is. Plus lots of hurt/comfort.

"These things unseen" (34k) by bonyenne is a very soft #WangXian canon fix-it #fanfic where wwx wakes up after 3d from wq's needles with a fevered A-Yuan in his arms, and his priority becomes saving him. Changing pov with lwj who's searching for his zhiji. Enter xxc, sl, bssr and ly 🤩 Lots of comfort & care, also plenty of child acquisition :D The only angst is wwx's non-existent self-worth, and his new maternal figures know how to deal with that 😍

"Where the nightingales are singing..." (33k) by moominmammashandbag is a non-magical history AU #fanfic where #WangXian were in an early arranged marriage before wwx reportedly died in battle. Years later lwj oversees an exchange of prisoners of war. Not angsty!

Written in a wonderful dry humor voice, with (pseudonymous) famous romantic poet and hilariously petty lwj who doesn't let anyone forget their crimes against wwx.

"Down by the water" (60k) by astrolesbian is an incredibly beautiful surfer AU . I felt like my chest was open & my heart exposed the entire time. Perfect characterization, insecure, awkward lwj pov & sun-like, hot wwx, told via effective time jumps, angst is all in the past.

"A clan of ghosts" (31k) by @twigofwillow is a lovely fix-it AU told from Wen Qing's pov. It diverges when wwx and the Wens get a warning from lqy about a trap, leading to wwx's Burial Mounds family expanding in surprising ways. Beautifully told, great characterization and dialogue, and the found family feels are strong. I was especially happy to see wq adopt new family & friends. This really touched me.

Wishes inked beneath your skin (6k) by Suspicious_Popsicle is a sweet modern AU with wwx as brilliant cultivator/tattoo artist (very special tattoos) & lwj in love. Although relatively short it captures wwx's essence & lwj's feelings so incredibly well. There's a dash of sadness / a sense of loss (loving parents, wwx living in hiding) but it's a very positive fic.

Come home to my heart (30k) by occultings is a canon divergent where our favorite oblivious boys suffer a body swap curse after the Sunshot campaign. Some shenanigans ensue (but no slapstick humor), the fic is funny, soft and lighthearted, with lots of tender, bittersweet pining that becomes mutual after an initially slightly obnoxious wwx has some revelations.
