Dieser Satz zu NGOs im Artikel "Die letzten auf der Bowlingbahn" in der aktuellen Jacobin is so fucking on point. NGOs sind körperlos.

Given the way the US and other countries fight women and trans people, being in one of those two classes should automatically give you asylum in every civilized place.

(Also let's dismantle borders and expand care to everyone, everywhere all the time).

Read "Automation and the Future of Work" by Aaron Benanav this weekend, it's such a clear piece that applies massively to all the "AI" hype these days

New Zelda is a technological marvel. It works well on a garbage machine, it's got a beautiful and consistent art style, the sandbox is never-seen-before quality.
I just wished it made me feel anything.

The weirdest "AI" usecase is the "it will give you ideas for articles and books" thing.

If you have no ideas maybe you shouldn't be publishing anything till you do?

Didn't think I'd like Tears of the Kingdom that much (and the weapon degradation is still too strong) but it's really impressive how well Nintendo iterated on the previous game, added impressive new systems all while running it on a machine with as much processing power as a potato.

I am so so tired of the whole "AI" thing. Everything out of that space is so bland and milquetoast.

Web3/crypto was at least batshit insane. "AI" is just corporate fan fiction (and not the fun horny one)

I like a lot of drummers for a lot of reasons, but I keep coming back to Abe Cunningham (Deftones). His combination of simplicity, originality and raw power speak to me in a way no other drummer does. 🤘

Got a mail asking if I'd be willing to run a course at a Berlin University this semester. I'd have to prepare and give 14 lectures (90 minutes each) and grade final papers.

Compensation offer: 1036 € before taxes.

Like. What? It's basically me giving them money to work for them.

@playinprogress Yeah. I would have just thought when the university finds nobody and goes outside of their weird little circles they realize that this offer is really insulting.

tante,
@tante@tldr.nettime.org avatar

@playinprogress (It is insulting within Academia as well but I have no business fixing that shit show / my solutions would make many people with titles very unhappy ;))

tante,
@tante@tldr.nettime.org avatar

@can I know that Universities can't pay competitively. That's fine. I actually enjoy giving lectures and talks so I do sometimes do them for way less than my normal rate. But there are limits to it.

tante,
@tante@tldr.nettime.org avatar

@playinprogress Yeah. That or it's your job to "teach" things with a certain spin. Every time I have to interact with academia as a system my respect for it dwindles.
