Been inexplicably melancholy. Fortunately a short hike today brought vistas like this, with susurrating rattlesnake grass. The melancholy remained, but with some space around it.

I am both fascinated by #snakes and, if I’m honest, a little scared of them too. Perhaps more than a little.

I know this 4’ central rat snake is non-venomous, and many people would just snatch it up and relocate it. I could not do it! My courage repeatedly faltered at the critical moment.

I eventually discouraged it from climbing up the house. I might have even shrieked when it turned & let go of the brick wall, plummeting 5 feet to the ground.

We both survived, mostly unscathed.

I completely relate! I love snakes but have freaked out when attempting to handle even tiny safe ones.

Today is Rapture Party Day for those that observe

Rapture Party Day is held every May 21, celebrating the date that a shocking prediction was made, & widely believed, by Family Radio Christian network's Harold Camping, that Jesus would return on May 21, 2011, his followers would be sucked off to heaven & sinners would remain

It didn't happen

@mycrowgirl it’s something I think about a lot: where do I belong? I thought I might make a trip to Germany at some point, just to see . . . but this article gives me pause. Belonging is, after all, something different than blood, which I know too well, even just from my immediate family. So what is belonging, then? Maybe it’s a mutual calling between me and a place or situation, whatever we may be. . . . 🤔
