@OutofPrintArchive I find it interesting where esteem for this game seems to have gone down since it was released. I think contemporary reviews give it something of a pass simply being on Game Boy. Like, the music is literally programmed incorrectly and plays incorrect pitches. It's a pretty messy game (but I secretly still like it).

Hoping you post some reviews of 4 and 5 too.

I've been looking for Mega Man reviews on the Game Boy, as they were all added to the Nintendo Switch Online service this weekend.
But besides the first 3, I'm having a hard time finding any.

@OutofPrintArchive oh God, that European cover art is something else! Never seen it before. We had the smoothed out style in the US (lifted almost exactly from the MM3 cover)

@OutofPrintArchive That's beautiful! It looks like the poster for a 90s direct-to-video life action movie (in a good way).

Japan had consistently great cover art for this series. I didn't know Rock Man was anime AF until Mega Man 8 came out.

@OutofPrintArchive the section on SaGa Frontier is something else. Who the heck are the "legendary" Shinjuku Jacki and Bun Bun Maru? I've never heard of them and a quick search turns up nothing. And FF7 as an action RPG is prophetic given Remake. And of course whoever wrote this didn't seem to know what SaGa was. Oh those pre-Internet days...

@OutofPrintArchive I always loved this game more than other Sonic games for some reason. I think comparisons to Mario Kart are a bit unfair--it plays more like Outrun or Rar Racer. It's also a technical achievement when you consider the Game Gear is basically just a Master System.

I have a monkey paw wish where they add GG and SMS games to Switch Online, and hack online multiplayer into Drift 2!

@renwillis it might just be me, but when evenly matched, bosses in this game take forever. The first final chapter boss took me over an hour.

(Then you get in this weird state where the bosses are too easy because they didn't scale with you)

@mdmrn @MeganThomasPA I've found many podcasts on topics I'm interested in, but they have like 10 minutes at the outset of intros and chit chat, and the rest is 50% off topic nonsense. Sort of the difference between listening to chatty talk radio vs a long-form story on NPR. Maybe audio documentaries is a thing...

I started Dark Souls 3, but it didn't feel fun to me for some reason. I switched to Yakuza: Like a Dragon instead, a game I've played earlier but abandoned half way through. I don't know why I did that. The game really seems like a blast this time around too. Also the cinematic bits at the beginning are loooonng.

@MURRRAAAAY I had Sonic 3, Mega Man 3, and probably a few others. As a kid, I had a Game Gear and the batteries in it were always dead, so I ended up playing these Tiger games a lot. I have a weird monkey paw wish to have a collection of these on Switch (the licensing to make that happen would be hilariously complicated)

jeff vogel's Spiderweb Software website, in march 2000. creator of the Exile and Avernum series, jeff previously took mail orders and telephone orders. the web site introduced the concept of ordering shareware games over the internet to his fanbase.

5 years after its disappearance from general use in HTML, it is surprising still using a server-side imagemap to handle navigation clicks on the menu 😆

I don't mean to judge, but holy hell the English-speaking narrator of the Nintendo Direct showcases has GOT to be one of the whitest sounding voices ever. Like, when POC comedians do a purposefully bad "white person" voice... it's this voice. lol

With that being said, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance was announced!!! =ooooo

@renwillis haha, I wouldn't have thought of it that way, but that's a very accurate description of the narrator.

SMTV Vengeance was the only announcement I was excited about. Looking forward to dumping another 100+ hours into that world.

I had hoped for some Etrian Odyssey related, but oh well. It would be on par with Atlus to release EO6 after the switch is dead

Playing last night, I was walking out of a cave at the same time one of those swarms of eyeball bats was flying in. There were torches near the entrance. I don't know what happened, but I shot an arrow into the swarm, there was a fireball then all the bats were dead and it was raining eyeballs.

@GamesMissed @Hundstrasse I wanted to do the same thing (I have an OG 2DS and wanted to get a 2DS XL) but they were gone before I even had a chance and prices never returned to normal. So I guess I am forever stuck with this 2DS that my daughter dropped on the floor multiple times and my wife super glued the directional pad to itself (facepalm)
