Any #PHP #cryptography geeks out there? I'm working on doing something w/ the Fediverse, but every time I go to validate the signed headers, I get a big fat NO. I'm kinda stuck, I've tried three different approaches, and all three have dropped me at the same endpoint, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Duolingo is letting AI take their jobs - Desk Chair Analysts

phpfox,

@majorlinux Maybe a better headline is "DuoLingo is replacing human jobs with AI in order to make shareholders richer". There, #IFixedItForYou Letting is WAY too passive a word. It implies they didn't make the decision to fire people and that the people who are being fired had the option to challenge this decision when we both know they don't.

phpfox,

@majorlinux ah... I stopped watching South Park back at Season 12. So yeah, didn't get the reference, apologies.

Hey guys. My $WORK is on the hunt for a python engineer. If you have experience in working in Python and DJango and are willing to or already know something about AngularJS let me know. I'll forward any resumes up to my bosses. We need someone competent and creative and willing to show up to an interview.

Some things I'd like to see in development for the #Fediverse :

Federated Marketplace - i.e. replacement for etsy

Federated Auction house - ebay replacement.

Global search tool across the fediverse. (search that starts on a single server, say for a hashtag or a user which sends replies back to the OP inbox asynchronously. Then passes the request on to other servers the instance is federated with, rinse repeat, wait for the echos to die down.

I'm already working on a comics server, which admittedly, is a very VERY niche project, but eh, that's my passion project, so can't stop won't stop.

How about the rest of you weirdos? What do you want to see to make this place better?

Constantly hearing โ€got tired of Mastodonโ€™s technicalities, Bluesky is simple and amazingโ€.

How we could design Mastodon to be more simple and have less technical-feel to it? UI is one thing, but that will not cut it all. I have probably said this before, but I am starting to believe no matter what we do we canโ€™t โ€winโ€. The narrative might need to change. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

#SocialMedia #Bluesky #Mastodon

phpfox,

@rolle It's not a technical issue, it's a social one. The problem isn't that Mastodon is inherently more complicated to use, it's that the people who use Mastodon love to talk up the amazement of it. The fact that it's federated, multi server, etc etc etc.

The issue is that the people who are "tired of Mastodon's technicalities" are looking for a replacement Twitter, full stop. Then they run into nerds who babble non-stop about how interesting and complex (not in a bad way, but you know how techgeeks get) the workings of Masto is and blah blah blah. They come away with the feeling that this is a complicated tool when all they wanted was a squeaky hammer.

Offering an alternative UI will help, but really we need to change the social narrative that Mastodon is complicated.

WANTED: PHP programmers who are versed in activitypub systems.

WHY: I have no clue what I'm doing, but I learn fast when I have someone to ask questions.

DETAILS: ClickthuluFed is entering phase 2 where I add ActivityPub protocols into the comics engine. But I do not know what I'm doing when it comes to making AP fit. I have broad strokes, but am looking at it like a raccoon looking at a box with a shiny rock inside.

RENUMERATION: The warm glow of being able to teach an old dog new tricks, some FOSS Credit and the chance to be smug.

HEY YOU GUYS!

Part one is done. This is the part where we release a FOSS standalone online comics engine for the world. Part 2 comes when I understand activitypub better, or can convince some smart folks who do understand activitypub better to give me a hand.

Anyway, ClickthuluFed is now in beta.

Letโ€™s start thinking about a new language to replace JavaScript.

https://mastodon.social/@veroandi/111019908788814752

What do you think that should look like?

Probably needs to have OO to integrate with existing APIs. Perhaps start with stronger typing. Maybe it doesnโ€™t have NULL? Better boolean truthy-ness. Native tenplating like PHP. Rust-y numeric types e.g. u16, Namespaces, native module syntax.

Imagine working with a language not designed in 10 days. what do you think? Blog posts welcome

#JavaScript #Software

phpfox,

@awoodsnet I think, leaving out the NULL is not a great idea. just from my experience, the number of ways a user can mess with your site is uncountable, taking away a variable state that's basically "this should exist but it doesn't" is setting us up for problems. Especially when Marketing starts poking at the site prior to release. Those guys break my shit in so many creative ways.

phpfox,

@awoodsnet Oh, hard agree. NULL handling needs to be better. Lack of NULL would be a nightmare scenario for me. Personally, I'm PHP biased, I'd love to see a scaled down browser port for PHP 8+. But I sense that would not be met with cheers in the C# and Python camps. Just ya know, a guess ;)

Alright, Google domains are now dying. Where are you moving your domains? Cloudflare? WordPress Com? AWS? Namecheap? Something else? It must be reliable with hardware 2FA. Please comment below. TIA. #google

phpfox,

@nixCraft I use NameCheap and have for over a decade now. Before that I was on Joker, but I ended up migrating for the cost savings.
