As the unofficial accidental family historian, relatives frequently send me old photos, albums and other items. I find inspiration in 1 Giant Leap while working on family history stuff..
“I am the sum total of my ancestors
I carry their DNA
We are representatives of a long line of people
And we cart them around everywhere”
If you follow me, you will often see lulls in my PHP/Laravel posts. These are times when I just can’t get to doing what I love most about working on a computer. Day job etc takes me away from it all, sometimes for much longer than I wish. I guess I should write in my bio I do sysops as well?
@outofcontrol there's a default option using iframes (3 dots on post -> embed), there's support for oEmbed and there are other 3rd party solutions to achieve similar results
I see there’s a “hack” to use Google search without AI by appending udm=14 or something to the URL. Pretty sure this ”hack” is easier: Stop using Google.
Give DDG or Mojeek a try. The results may pleasantly surprise you!!
@outofcontrol And by using DDG you give less data to Google, but I don't know if the search results are better. Google sucks. Most results you get with web development questions are Reddit, Stack Overflow or Medium behind Paywall. 🤦♀️
Awhile back I mentioned that my Step Cousin had a bout of bad luck with a tooth absess. I was was bitching about how dental should be covered under medical. This gofundme was setup by one of his immediate family, and is accurate, with the exception is that he is getting out this week… we hope: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-ralph-steiner-through-an-unexpected-medical-emergency
Back in ’94 I had a roomate for around 3 weeks. He was a busker and performed in various pubs around Montreal. He was, to this day, without a doubt the best classical jazz flamenco guitarist I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. He would often play so intensly that he would pass/grey-out. I knew him simply as “Yanni” or “Yanny”. He played as cutaway 6 string classical guitar. He left while I was travelling and I never saw or heard from him again. (1/2)
A few time while I noodled around on my six string he would come and sit and teach me some simple to play but great sounding little riffs and chord progressions.
My Friday ask, if anyone know him, or has any idea where he is, I’d love to see what he’s up to today, in the hopes he is still playing. Please retoot/share.
Given the iTerm hullabaloo, I tried Kitty (https://sw.kovidgoyal.net/kitty/). And I am unsure why I didn’t try it sooner, except having not heard of it. As a macOS and Linux user, it is more responsive, and miles easier to configure. Took about 15 minutes to get just how I had iTerm, and having all my configs in a simple .conf file means I can integrate with my dotfiles repo quite nicely. Bye-bye iTerm.
Any quality paid replacement for Apple Music app on the desktop? Only use it for my own music, not the Apple Music service. A bit tired of the app randomly losing/deleting songs :(
Love Obsidian, but for the past 2-3 weeks it would freeze and get slow.
TIL
Themes and plugins must be upgraded separately from core
iCloud appears to not automatically download all files, or quietly reverts some files to cloud only, making indexing and search in obsidian super slow
3.Pages with large markdown table with broken formatting can cause Obsidian to become unresponsive for over a minute each time you try to open that page. Suspect this is a bug?
@outofcontrol you have nothing to lose by trying. At least nothing mentioned should be losing data, it is more ireliability of content availability and ease of access (at minimal/zero cost).
Your current solution is seemingly no longer fit for purpose, so backup everything and give it a try.
