otter,

Same for me, on occasion I’ve discovered decent games by clicking on the ads on mobile. Since I know it’s going to open up the play store, it doesn’t feel as sketchy.

However, the vast majority of the time I back out after taking a look at the game page.

otter,

That’s a good point, even the platforms may change over time (either by name, or entire projects migrating).

People here say “lemmy” way too much when they really should consider the Fediverse as a whole.

Part of it is that we don’t federate that nicely to the rest of the fediverse yet. I expect that to change over time though

otter,

Yea it’s really about what people have as the mental model for the platform they are on. It might take time for people to internalize what the network is doing.

Mastodon and Lemmy do mix as it is, but it could be better. Two big areas I’ve heard are

  • Lemmy users need the ability to follow mastodon users (kbin has this I believe)
  • Mastodon users have a hard time following Lemmy communities and seeing posts, because they end up getting a waterfall of every post/comment at once overwhelming their feeds
otter,

Those feathery antennae/whiskers are adorable

otter,

I’m not sure what would be the ideal community, but !fediverse might have a larger audience with more perspectives :)

otter,

I know a few people that still stick around to moderate some places. If you have recommendations for what she switches to, please do share!

So far I’ve seen RedReader as an open source app for viewing, but it’s quite limited so I’m not sure what it would be like for moderation

otter,

I believe a few apps got exceptions, but I don’t remember which.

Redreader looks open source and it seems to be working. It’s a lot more limited, which might be a good thing

A Ticketmaster hack spilled sensitive data for 560 million customers, hackers say (qz.com)

otter,

I was about to recommend Heliboard since that’s the best one so far IMO, but it also doesn’t have emoji search. Turns out I was using the “recent emojis” menu

That might help in the meantime till a better recommendation comes around

otter,

It might not be your image, but if it is, you can disable the Reddit watermark / borders. I think it’s called “saved image attribution”

otter,

One of the menu options also says “spider” lol

otter,

This was really cool, nice collection :)

otter,

There actually is a bot here for that

@RemindMe 12 hours

Has anyone ever heard of or used this webapp converter before? (play.google.com)

It looks like a very well built app to convert web pages to lite apps. It also seems to be based on Firefox and seems to include something similar to that of Firefox Multiaccount Containers for every webapp, on top of an adblocker. Seems very neat. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about whether or not it is open source...

otter, (edited )

It comes on sale somewhat often, I saw a sale post the other day on Lemmy somewhere.

There’s also Native Alpha on Fdroid which does something similar

edit: decided to give it a try. Interestingly, both Lemmy and Mastodon are listed in the “popular” section of the built in apps

otter,

For sure! Turns out I was subscribed to two, the later being an automated mirror of a subreddit

!playstoredeals

!googleplaydeals

There’s also a community for the Hermit app it turns out !hermit. That one seems abandoned

otter,

This makes me think of people who have trouble in airports because their name is similar to someone else’s.

Only this is going to be much harder to deal with

otter,

One thing I noticed the other day, while banning one such bot, is that the same network has been posting on Reddit as well.

Turns out the Reddit ones have been posting the spam for months, while the Lemmy ones get banned within hours.

Part of that is the lower volume of content here, but part of it is also the great people that take the time to report bad content ♥️

otter,

I’m fuzzy on the details, but I do get reports from users on another instance as long as it’s “relevant” (ex. in one of our communities, one of our users)

Banning a foreign user on our instance will fix the problem for our instance, but they need to be banned on the home instance too in order to stop the spam from continuing
