I discovered when I graduated from Computer Science I prefer people to programming. I toot about Privacy and about how RFC1984 relates to that. I'm concerned by the threat of mass data collection and surveillance. I like to raise awareness of this RFC: https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1984

Just redid my political compass for curiosity.

Note how KIer Starmer is right in the blue authoritarian quadrant. That's the Leader.

Labour is no longer a socialist party and has a right wing authoritarian as a leader.

You want a left leaning party? if you can.

You never know, they may even make back their deposit, or like win seats.

@sullybiker it's pretty much going to be everywhere.

Driver tracking, probably will be mandatory for insurance, if it isn't already.

It's a treasure trove for the nefarious.

@sullybiker I do not like this. You can't opt out and pretty soon it's going to be impossible to get a vehicle without one.

We're just going to be using our old tractor at this rate.

My dude, trying to put backdoors into our messaging by trying to bipass encryption will not protect the children at all.

You need to make systematic investment into social care. Not create a dragnet of yet more data to surveil citizens.

"Following his speech, a BBC News presenter apologised after she accused Farage of using 'customary inflammatory language.' Geeta Guru-murthy made the comment after a clip of Farage speaking at the Dover event was shown on the news channel, before later apologising and saying this 'didn’t meet the BBC’s editorial standards on impartiality.' Live on air, Guru-murthy said: 'Earlier today we heard live from Nigel Farage, speaking at that election event we just saw. When we came away from his live speech, I used language to describe it which didn’t meet the BBC’s editorial standards on impartiality. I’d like to apologise to Farage and viewers for this.' In a post on X, Farage tagged the presenter and asked: 'What happened to impartiality?'' https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/may/28/uk-moving-to-sectarian-politics-with-women-excluded-from-inner-cities-says-nigel-farage

Did a job application a while ago that asked me how I performed compared to the other students in my Highschool in multiple subjects.

Not how I performed, but specifically, how I performed in comparison to other students.

I went to high school two decades ago, and I've been working in the industry since then. What possible bearing could my relative performance in my English class two decades ago have on my current job performance?

So, yesterday I wrote a bit about how my experience with social media has been changing:

"Social Media."

https://www.baldurbjarnason.com/2024/social-media/

> I decided to lean into that and rely instead on something much simpler: Text files.

I also finally remembered to add a link to my Bluesky profile to the site footer.

@baldur good post. I do find it's like you say, different networks have different vibes and cultures.

Occasionally I do get a reply which is a head scratcher. Sometimes it's a well meaning reply, but either my wires are crossed or theirs are. I can't always tell if it's a troll or a genuine response.

So I try to not react. But you get to a certain number of replies, you do lose the ability to engage and think.

You know the thing I love about the Auxiliary Languages of the 20th Century is the way that so many of the creators split off from Esperanto.

And we think forks are an issue with projects 😂

I've been using @Mojeek for the past week.

I like the simplicity of it.

The company at the moment isn't chasing VC money, as it's product is its API.

I am concerned about the LLM summary functionality as I feel the infrastructure and cost of it's use will be taking money and other resources away from other parts. Like Languages.

@dentangle @Mojeek I wonder if there's an issue with internationalisation.

Does Mojeek do right to left?

onepict,
@onepict@chaos.social avatar

@Mojeek @dentangle So is Internationalisation with non Roman characters sets on the roadmap?

I understand that you do have constraints as you aren't VC funded which is a good thing.

So do the supported languages get added as people ask or have you had projects. It's a very unusual list of languages and I'm fascinated.

You may not have the spoons to attend an event.

You may not realise there's something you can do right now to help your community be more accessible to others.

You may want to spread word of a cool event to your followers. Which is awesome.

I'm always going to check out what you're interested in, mutuals.

Although I'd like a small favour if you can. Please can you check if they have a public health policy?

If they don't could you ask them? Please?

Because I want to boost.

I want to spread little bits of the pixie dust of happiness, to spread the news that there are events for the to attend.

If you're running an event and you aren't sure where to start you can ask, or check out @phpledge .

There are conferences like @NorthBayPython and @SeaGL who do have a public health policy.

It's why I'm keen for EU based conferences to do so as well.

@onepict@chaos.social avatar

We need to enshrine #HumanRights for everyone, otherwise they do not protect anyone.

One of the reasons for censorship in a country can be because other people's human rights are being violated.

People should read the transcript of @how recent presentation at #EmpoderaLIVE.

It's about Human Rights, censorship and the gaslighting on the political stage that can happen during conflicts.

You can't hold rogue regimes to account if you allow censorship.
